Question my 160Gb HDD is corrupted, can I use the PS3 to wipe it clean?

My 160Gb HDD for my PC got a f*** strong virus : all my .exe could'nt be launched from the desktop or start menu icon, media files still worked and a program could be laucnhed from a media file with a right click and "choose program" .... I consider it done with. Can I put it in my PS3 and have it wipe it and use it in my PS3? or can it corrupt the PS3?

Yes.

The ps3 will reformat it which will clean it completely.

Through I think I know what virus you had, the regestiry
for windows file assoication with exe got wiped out.

If you could find a good copy of a normal registry you could
fix it.

But it wont be full fix.. but you will able to launch your exes...

um is there anything important you might want to keep on that
original hard drive?

Um, if it's not a 2.5 inch drive it won't fit, so hopefully you are talk about a laptop.

Yeah, it has to be a 2.5" SATA hard drive. Chances are, if it came out of your pc and not a laptop it's not.

If it's a Dell pc you might wanna try hitting CTRL+F11 when you start it up. This will wipe everything out and return it to when you originally got it and turned it on the first time.

You say it's the HDD for your "PC"?

Unless you've got a 2.5" SATA Laptop HDD in your PC, you won't be able to format it with your PS3 since it physically won't fit.

Unless you use a HDD external enclosure & connect it to your PS3 via USB & format it that way.

Just get a USB/IDE or USB/SATA cable cable. Hook it up with a power supply to the PS3's USB port and ask it to reformat.
