Unhappy HD Satellite Receiver?

Whose HD Satellite receiver is better...Directv or Dishnetwork?

Does anyone have experience with the FTA HD receivers?

I have Directv HD and my neighbor has Dish HD and I definitely got the better deal. More channels and better equipment.

I don't think that the equipment itself is the question, but the content the SAT provider offers. I would have to go with DirecTV.

I have DirecTv HD and the PQ is Good for the most part. but sometimes the Sound on a few HD Channels seem to Drop out or I would get a "Poping" sound?? I guess DirecTv is still "Fine-Tuning". I hope..

I have had both. DirecTV is a better deal. DISH had a lot of worthless HD VOOM channels.

I just made a switch from Dish to D*. I definitely like the HD on D* better (seems less compressed) and more choices.

But your question is about the receiver. I found the Dish VIP622 to be a very good DVR. Offering features I like better than the HR21s I have now. The 30-sec skip on the Dish receiver is an actual skip (not a fast forward like it is on the HR21). I really like that feature.

But overall I am very pleased that I made the switch. The equipment is comparable and the programming is better.

Also -- Echostar had a problem with their latest satellite launch that will further delay expansion of their HD lineup.

One annoyance -- D* moved UniHD off of their regular HD lineup (have to pay $5 extra to get UniHD and a couple of other channels that are kind of worthless). I like watching BSG on HD on that channel. But D* is $10 for HD pack and E* is $20 for the HD pack -- so I guess it works out better even still on D*. Right now I am just getting along without UniHD. Plus D* has SciFi on HD anyway.

I would go with Directv too.

As far as FTA HD goes, there isn't really that much available on FTA that is HD on Ku band (Small Dish), but there is more on C Band (Big Dish).

FTA is excellent for feeds, but FTA should be your hobby and not the system you depend on for everyday TV watching. I have 2 motorized FTA systems and love them, but I still have my Directv for everyday TV watching.
