Default Pirated BD!?!?

I told my friend back in Taiwan about how BDs are great and the PQ/SQ are so much superior, etc.

He said he knew and then he said that he has seen pirated BD movies in Taiwan already!

I told him that they are just fake BDs with a BD case and not a BD Disc. He just said, no, they are real BDs and been told that they just make multiple copies of original BD!

I thought the official BD are coded and cannot be copied with just any 2 BD disc player/writer?

There has not yet been a successful way to copy a BD, so chances are more than likely its a DVD-9.

titles that only use AACs (especially those that have the encryption code that got busted last year) are susceptable to pirating.

HD DVD was a wonderful format for pirates with limited security protection and region free. For some studios, they simply ported the HD DVD code over to the blu-ray so their was no tougher security thatn a HD DVD.

nearly all catalog titles are region free I believe and those that were written with the AAC code that got busted very easily can be pirated.

here is the main problem and I should have stated this in my first post and this is why I think they are probably not pirated blu-rays and just DVD9s. If you are going to pirate a blu-ray and sell them, you need a blank BD disc. Blank BDs are nearly as expenisve as the movies themselves, so there really is no benefit curretnly to pirating discs and you can get into big trouble.

I have never heard of blu-rays being sold on the black market, however I have heard of DVD9s being put in Blu-ray cases and being sold on the black market.

This is what I meant. I thought it is not doable at this point and MAYBE just for some region-free coded ones that are doable, maybe?

I have asked my friend to check it out and buy one actually, just want to see if they are really BDs.

:P

Actually, I think blank BD discs have dropped in price over in Asia. (china, hk, taiwan, etc) It "COULD" be profitable still if you can buy bulk with avg price of a blank BD in the 5 or 6 dollars and sell at $10-12 each, especially when there is no super online retailers such as Amazon over there. This is the bargain people hunt.

I know I did during DVD days. :P

you should be able to tell if they are BDs or DVDs simply by looking at the reflection of your face in them.

If they mastered copying Blu-rays tho, something tells me we would have caught word of it by now.

One way to tells is what they are asking for the disc. If it's a few of bucks, I doubt that it's a BD, but if they want 10-15 then it might be BD. Unfortunitely, if you have the bandwidth, the movies are out there. HD-DVD was a joke, atleast BD+ has slowed some if it down.

They're not blu-rays.

They've simply been given Blu packaging/labeling

yeah you can even download full BDs online... whats sad is you can get them before they're out for retail by weeks now (other boelyn girl for example) 30-45gbs.. who would download that oO

edit: of course they also have the compressed versions with no lossless audio that are 4-10gbs

not that hard, I can do 20 gigs in one night if necessary. I did that with Rambo so I could stream it to my ps3 (before anyone jumps on me I had the thing pre ordered on Amazon it's just that Amazon doesn't deliver till tomorrow and we wanted a movie night this weekend)
