So on the 23rd it becomes a year since I got my PS3 on the UK launch date.
In that time I've convinced atleast one person to buy one, and two others are in the process of doing so. Problem is one of my friends loves the BD/media centre capabilities of the PS3 but right now it seems only the 40 gig is available in the UK. The 40 gig doesn't have the card slots, only 2 USB ports and the smaller drive obviously. Euro 60's are going for a premium. Anyone know if/when the 80's are coming? Available anywhere else in europe? ![]() |

![]() and you can always swap out the hard drive with most any 2.5" laptop drive. Its cheap and you can get more GB storage for the money. The only thing the 40gb PS3 lacks is PS2 game compatibility and Super Audio CD playback. Other than that its all the same really. |

(1) USB Flash Drive fixes the card slot problem. (2) A multiport USB HUB fixes the limited USB port problem. (3) A replacement HDD fixes the hard drive size problem. You can get a replacement HDD for a very reasonable amount of money - in fact, you can get all of the above quite likely for the price differential between the 40 and 80GB units, and end up with more functionality when you're done (aside from SACD compatibility, which few people use anyway). |

Aye, aware of that, but he's very much a "plug and play no time or inclination for workarounds" type of guy. Atleast when it comes to the PS3.
He wants to beable to just take the cards out of his phone or cameras and shove them in at the end of the day and upload the music and pictures etc. I suppose he'll have to wait around for a cheaper 60 gig, don't think that'll happen though. That or wait for the 80 gig which just doesn't seem to exist around here. hah, he's seriously regreeting not snapping up a really cheap 60 gigger from costco a few months back now. That said, yes, getting the 80GB is the easiest way if you don't mind the price premium. |
