I was just wondering if I should sell my Dvd's since Blu-Ray has won the format war, or if I should keep them if they are worth any money anymore?

It would probably depend on your collection. If you have a very small collection and replace them easily with Blu-ray, then sell. If you don't plan on replacing them with Blu then I would definately keep them.
I'm somewhere in the middle. I had around 750 DVDs when I started investing in Blu. I've sold the DVDs that I replaced with Blu but have no intention of replacing my entire DVD collection, so I will contiunue to have 100's of DVDs in my collection along with Blu for new titles as well ass some of the selct titles that I am replacing along the way. |

I am slowly getting rid of whichever movies I either upgrade to blu-ray or of course the ones I don't want anymore.
Currently down to about 400 DVDs... there is a bunch that I personally think are good enough on DVD and won't need an upgrade any time soon. It's not like DVD will be dead tomorrow, so don't panic and enjoy the movies on whichever format you prefer ![]() |

I started by selling stuff I couldn't remember why I bought in the first place.
Or,.. gifts from others that knew I was collecting movies but bought me things I didn't exactly want. I can't be bothered with Ebay which is where you are likely to get the best money for them so I go to places like FYE or Newbury comics. I get average $3 for them so it's 10 to 1 for Blu Ray and that's ok for a lot of my DVD's. I don't keep anything on DVD once I get the Blu Ray version. Still,.. I don't think I will upgrade any TV on DVD unless it's something that was widescreen HD to begin with. (My Simpsons, Avengers seasons and South Park will stay on DVD most likely.) I wouldn't mind upgrading any and all my movies to Blu Ray. -Brian |

I simply gave my collection away. My step-dad is a contractor in Iraq and last year while he was here on break, I boxed up my entire collection of around 75 DVDs and he took them back to Iraq. From what I've been told, everyone on the base watches them including our soldiers. While I took a finanical hit doing that, I'm actually really happy I did. Of all the DVDs I had, my step-dad told me that the Iraqis on the base enjoyed Superman Returns the most.

On the other hand, because a portable blu-ray player doesn't exist yet, DVD could be worth having for use with a portable DVD player. |

What I have done is replace most of my action movies with its high def counterpart. I'm keeping my comedy films on DVD as I usually watch them anywhere and I keep and continue to buy TV Show's on DVD considering it's usually about 3 times cheaper on DVD compared to Blu.

Still adding to my DVD collection. Some of the new releases have excellent PQ when upscaled.
When the price of BD's drop, (hopefully in the next 6 months), I will buy only BD's. I can buy 4 or 5 DVD's for the price of 1 BD. |

Personally, I sold almost all of my DVDs (trying to sell some Walt Disney Tresures sets on ebay for a few bucks), but that is because I never watched all of them more than once. If you have a huge collection, replace your favorites and keep the rest, but if you have a petite collection like me, just sell it. You will not regret it, turst me

I at one point had just over 600 titles on DVD. As I double dip, I have been bringing those titles in to work or offering them to friends for 5 bucks a pop, or 5 for 20.
I pretty much sell them all in minutes at work because im slick and bring them in on pay day or the day after pay day (and just recycle that money into more Blu-Ray discs ![]() |

You have to have a strategy. The fact is there are titles released today on dvd that will never see the light of day on Blu-ray. The same was true of the transition from VHS to dvd. My dvd collection is nearing 4000 titles and I have to think carefully about what to do with them. Many of them will never get more money than now for them on the secondary market. Some dvds still contain a few extras that probably will never show up on BD(due to licensing or rights issues). You really have to decide on a title by title basis.
Many of the hardcore dvd collectors have already moved on to BD. I would never buy a new dvd of any major studio film at this point. Those will all see a Blu-ray release eventually. What may not see a BD release are certain television shows with limited popularity or poor sources. Or anything from an independent studio or of niche material. I have several hundred minor horror dvds that most likely will never show up on BD. I don't plan on selling any of them unless a BD version is released. |

I have a pretty decent size collection of DVD's and plan on keeping for a couple reasons. First as someone else mentioned there is no cheap portable Blu Ray player yet, and being able to watch movies on the plane is always nice, esp on long flights, and i would hate to sell all my good DVD's that i replace with blu's and be stuck with the movies i made the mistake of buying before watching, and now only collect dust.(And those are not even worth the hassle of trying to get 50 cents to a $1 for) Secondly most of my friends/family dont have HDTV's or Blu Ray players yet, or just an HDTV and no blu ray player.
