Default Progress doesn't stop ! :)

Japanese website Nikkei.net reports that scientists at Sanyo have made a blue laser diode which will speed up data access.
The diode will allow write speeds to reach 6X for double layer disks. The laser diode is compatible with both HD and Blu-ray recorders.

Cool.

And HD DVD is still without a single burner (apparently only 300 RD-A1 sold in Japan ) and the one Toshiba has announced will be 1x.

55 minutes for 15GB, and (get this) not HD DVD-RW compatible! Coaster city.

In the meantime both LG burners (plain BD + new combo) are 4x.

It is apparently much more difficult to write a HD DVD than it is a BD, something which I think will lead to mass adoption by computer companies, BD will really start gaining when Dell/HP/Gateway include BD-R/E drives as standard, starting with their high-end range (XPS style) and moving it to the lower ranges as prices continue to tumble. The same thing happened with CD and with DVD, why should it be different for BD.

Then there's also that BD has alot more data potential than HD... And the cost differential between a BD drive and an HD-DVD drive isn't that much [in the scheme of component pricing]...
