Default Does the LG GGC-H20L upconvert?

anyone know if the LG GGC-H20L (that is the internal drive that doesn't burn blu ray) upconverts regular dvd's?

A pc drive wouldn't do any upconverting, upscaling, upsampling, that sort of thing is handled by the software, so in a way, ANY drive is capable of these things, as long as the software you use is capable of it or has this feature.

I have that drive, and its blown up to a 57 inch dlp and dvds look great in pdvd and windvd, about as good as a DVD can look if you ask me.

I played Pirates of the Carribean Blu Ray back to back with upscaled Pirates Widescreen DVD on my 46" 1080p Bravia LCD - and there is NO contest. The Upscaled DVD would be considered Unwatchable.

What are you using for your upscaling?

Windvd9's upscaler with motion enhancement is amazing. Has anyone tried this yet??? I couldn't believe how much difference it made. It's definitelly not as good as Blu, but it's better than dvd.

It's way better than DVD !!!! Not as good as Blu..but - to be standard def upconverted...it solidified my decision not to rebuy any of my DVD that where not must haves or Disney. It's that good (IMHO).

Remember that for the windvd9 upscaler (All2HD) to work, hardware acceleration MUST be turned off. Also turn on the digital natural motion enhancement and you and also demo mode. It will show you a split screen with before and after. It's awesome!!!

Honestly, I wasn't all that impressed. For one - turning off the Hardware help would seem a step backwards to me - but the results were noticeable.

Some of the sharpening / filtering stuff actually made the movie less enjoyable to watch than just leting it play back in normal mode @ 1080P screen resolution. The edges were softer and less defined - but easier on the eyes.

The Blu-Ray thing I notice most - and Kudos to Sony on the Bravias - the colors just POP. The redcoats on the british soldiers are RED RED RED. In Cars - the Lightning McQueen car and the Dinoco Roadrunner car are RED RED and BLUE BLUE BLUE.
