Default Screen protector for HDTV?

I have a 40" Sony Bravia LCD HDTV. I also have two young daughters who like to throw stuff. So this has me wondering... does anybody sell any sort of rigid screen protector that I can put in front of the TV to protect it. I don't want to just put a piece of plexiglass up because that'd negate the non-reflective screen. But then I don't want anything that's going to distort the picture at all, since that's the whole point of having an HDTV.

That's also an issue for those of use who play Nintendo's Wii. A protective screen cover (perhaps made of bullet-proof glass or shatterproof plexi) would keep the actual screen from being damaged. However, it would look cumbersome and most likely be an eyesore. In the end, it would probably be best (in your situation) to either mount your HDTV high up on the wall.... or keep your children out of the media room (or TV viewing area).

I just have to be sure that the Wii controllers are always strapped on -- and I have to educate my game-playing friends on how to use the Wii remotes safely and correctly.

Your requirements seem at odds with reality:
*protect the screen
*no picture deterioration
Kids and electronics don't mix ... my grandson put a penny in the disc slot of their Wii console. $70.00 + UPS charges to repair!

When I come home, every-day I have to wipe the fingerprints off of my television...... mounting high on a wall isn't an option. (and again... I have had my fill with my speaker tweeters being pushed in if you've seen those threads)

Kids are tough.... not much you can do but live in fear!!!

My kids have been educated, and they're very good for the most part. But every once in a while they'll get carried away. And it only takes one accident. So I was hoping there might be a solution out there somewhere. The TV is deep inside an entertainment center and too far for the 2-year-old to touch it, so it's not all that vulnerable. I was just hoping for a little more security.

BTW, if we ever do get a Wii, it'll be hooked up to the old TV.

I have placed an eletronic dog collar on any kids that enter my home. If they get too close then they get zapped. The TV is ok, but you have to check your settings on the collar, you dont want to zap them until their knocked out, THEY MIGHT FALL INTO THE TV!!

My 60" plasma and all the other components are on a rack and it is very accessible to kids. I have a 3 year old and I have taught him never to touch my stuff. It has worked so far. However, when we have guests, it only takes a minute for some kids of my friends to get obsessed with touching the shiny plasma (akin to bugs going for the light!) it bothers me to no end. I have to put makeshift fence to keep them out.

I have grandchildren too. I cut a protective shield out of white foam posterboard that fits in front of the 46" TV-- not easy to dislodge due to its size and the air pressure. May not stop a brick but will most small toys, although the kids are good and don't throw things (so far).
