If so, any rough ideas as to when-abouts..

There are also some Bonds coming out individually in February from the recent Ultimate Edition sets. Could we be hearing about Blu-Rays of those at CES?

Man I hope so, every one of the 20 Bond movies redone with a DTS 5.1 tracks means that the Blu-ray releases will no doubt all have a DTS-HD Master Audio track.
Sweetness.

Yea, the movie Casino Royale is awesome... I watched it three times in the theater in the largest room when the movie came out. Glad to hear it's going to be on BD-50.

XSF, is VC-1 > MPEG2 in terms of PQ?

Sony will never use VC-1 for political reasons. It'll be either AVC or MPEG-2, and I'm guessing it'll be high-bitrate MPEG-2, which is fine if they just feel like wasting all that extra space. As long as they have both lossless or uncompressed PCM as well as DD5.1 and some cool features I don't care as long as it looks good. AVC would allow for a whole lot more extras though.

When MPEG2 is encoded well at an obscenely high bitrate like you see on 50 GB movies such as Black Hawk Down it looks every bit as good as the best VC-1 encodes, some would even argue that it looks better. The thing is, MPEG-2 needs to take up way more space to look as good as a VC-1 encode at a much lower bitrate. MPEG-2 is basically a waste of space. You can get the same results with lower bitrate VC-1 or AVC.

Default Casino Royale 26th March

Hi all,

I've just had an email alert from Play.com informing me that Casino Royale's release on Blu Ray has been confirmed for 26th March.

They have yet to update the website, but I've pre-ordered.

Now I'm wondering, 26th March - could this also be the launch date for the PS3 in Europe...

Ahem - as 26th is a Monday, PS3 probably won't be released on that date! Still, all being well I'll have a PS3 to watch Casino Royale on.

Gotta say, I honestly think this is the biggest release yet on either HD format. Surely Sony will pull out all the stops to push this on the blu-ray format and the compatibility with PS3.

Wonder if they would include the complete TV Casino Royale (mastered in VidFIRE/LiveFeed) as a supplement...

Casino Royale was first made into a live TV play for "Climax" on CBS in 1954. Barry Nelson played American "Jimmy Bond" and Peter Lorre played LeChiffre. The show is included on the DVD for the 1967 Casino Royale spoof (some DVD versions). Although, the disc that has the show is incomplete. I believe a scene at the end is missing. I have not heard whether it will be included or not.
