I have bought many Blu-Ray discs, but don't really have time to watch them all. It's very likely some will not get watched for years. However, I'm concerned that I may have problems that others have reported. I don't know of a good, centralized location for this information, and this site seems like a good place.
Could you add information to each title describing the types of problems people have seen, and create a query that lists all discs with known problems? Then I could compare that to my library, and check each title for problems. Thanks! |

Hi and welcome!
![]() The short answer is that you don't have anything to worry about. You are correct that there have been some initial problems with some titles, but those problems are almost always related to that your BD player doesn't have the latest firmware. Some manufacturers have also been a bit behind in updating their firmware, making the problem a bit bigger than it really is. If you in a few years try to play titles you have purchased now, and your BD player is fairly new with updated firmware, there should be zero problems. The problems aren't really the discs, it's the players trying to read the discs. If a title won't play in a BD player, then it's the player fault. If the error is actually on the disc, then a new version of the disc will be released immediately and if you own a copy of a defunct disc, you will get a proper version for free (the studios have always replaced bad copies for free so far). In any case, there are now also a company that specializes in precisely this, to gather data of problems with certain titles and to minimize those problems in the future. The company is BluFocus Inc. and you can find them here: http://www.blufocus.com We posted about them here: https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=1150 and we will try to help them as much as possible to gather data. |
