I took a History of film back in college 15-20 years ago....I watch a lot of movies. I feel like I'm above average in movie IQ. What I've never understood is why directors get so much love and writers get so little.
I understand that putting another persons story on film for all to see is very difficult, but IMO the original idea, the story, the screenplay is even more difficult. I've never heard anyone praise the direction of a bad story...."wow it was beautiful to look at but simply sucked in its plot"....you simpy can't make a good movie out of a bad story. This is all just my opinion....and a bad director can ruin a great story, so directing isn't easy by any stretch....but why not more lve for writers? I'm especially fond of writer/directors! |
