Heathers Announced for Blu-ray Release

Posted July 28, 2008 03:43 PM by Josh

Anchor Bay Entertainment During a panel at Comic Con, writer/director Daniel Waters revealed that his cult classic film 'Heathers' would be coming to Blu-ray this August. The film was recently re-released on DVD by Anchor Bay for its 20th Anniversary, and the Blu-ray is expected to mirror that release. No technical specs or special features have been announced at this time.

This movie is awesome. Dark, and incredibly satiric, and Slater and Ryder are brilliant together. This is great news for a definitive 80's classic in my opinon.

Apparently there's a LE, too...a "locker set".

Can't find a listing at Amazon. Hope it's not as pricey as listed.

The original "Mean Girls" were Shannon and co. I told my niece, who loves Mean Girls, to see this and she loved it. This is a very funny and dark film. My wife and I just found out we're going to have a daughter and I can't wait for her to see this in about 15 years.

Can't wait to get this. I'll pass on the locker set, though. How very!

Great movie, I'll just get the normal edition though. Good to see this one get the blu treatment.

this is one of those movies that makes me go "huh" when I hear about it getting the BD treatment.

not that I dislike the movie or anything but it's just a quirky older movie with no special effects or great sound that could really take advantage of a home theater after being remastered.

don't get me wrong, I think all movies should get a "GOOD" BD transfer eventually but the prioritizing seems so weird at times.

Anchor Bay doesn't have a whole lot in its cannon right now so to speak. But Heathers was always a big catalog seller on standard DVD, so I am sure they will sell the Blu Ray well. I passed on the most recent standard DVD hoping the BLU ray would follow. :-)

Same here and I wouldn't mind if Paramount countered with Mean Girls on Blu-ray. Rachel McAdams in High Def would be a very good thing!

I hope Anchor Bay puts as much effort into the transfer as they do the gift set packaging.

Tina Fey must have been a fan of Heathers... well I guess who wasn't back then? Winona will always have a soft spot in my heart because of that role.

Can't wait.

the 16x9 THX DVD was DNRed to death and looked like a blurry VHS compared the grainy, but more detailed original 4x3 lbx DVD.

Naturally, one hopes that no blunders (DNR) will currupt the image of the forthcoming BD.

I have this on request to review for dvdfile. Hopefully I'll get the screener.

I assume this blu-ray uses the same brand new transfer that found its way onto this years 20th anniversary edition DVD. If so, the good news is that the picture is no longer DVNRed to hell. The bad news is the the surreal colors just don't pop anymore (the color looks very natural now which is really not the look of the film). Also, there is a slight vertical jitter to the picture that never completely goes away, although it does get better as the film prgresses (looks worst at the beginning).
