Default Proud Owner Of Polk Lsi25 Speakers!

Well, I had been searching for a while for some new speakers...and was a bit frazzled as I couldn't really figure out what kind I wanted. Klipsche, Polk, Paradigm...looked at them all. Then yesterday...I went to my Dad's office to speak to him about something. Then I started telling him about how i'm trying to upgrade my home theatre...in walks his boss. He overheard what we were saying and said he had some speakers that he wants to get rid of. He happened to live about 10 mins from the office, so we went to go check them out....turns out, they were Polk LSi Series 25 Towers. They were about 5 months old. Right off the bat I thought to myself "well damn, I can't afford those" (MSRP on Polk's site is $3000/pair) He went on to test them for me...and wow did they sound amazing. The bass each one kicks it is great! (each has a side-firing sub onboard). After listening I was even more depressed that I couldn't have them. Finally I asked how much....he said give me $800/pair!! I COULDN"T BELIEVE IT! I snagged them! I was going to spend $1200 on the Rti A7s...now I have their full blown Lsi25s!!! I pick them up today, CAN"T WAIT TO SET THESE BAD BOYS UP!!

Awesome job! What a score. Even on Amazon you're paying $2500/pair.

Remember the LSi's are 4Ω.

Happy listening.

Congrats!! I have the entire Polk LSi 7.1 set (LSi25 x2, LSiFX x4, PSW1000, x1, LSiC x1). It cost me a few pretty penies, but it was well worth the investment since I'm as much of an audiophile as I am a videophile.

You know...I just thought of something though. Will my 605 have enough juice to power these suckers and make them sound great? 90w/Channel.The guy has a nice setup without an actual receiver, amplifier and whatever else...not sure. I was thinking about upgrading later down the road...bought the 605 just for the HD codecs...I'm sure that the 805 with 130w/channel will sound better...but would i notice a HUGE difference?

You can "push them" and I would still plan on doing the upgrade in the future for the receiver, because you're going to need to drop some cash to get the Center channel. I didn't read your equipment before replying, but if you have surrounds already, just get the center, and upgrade the reciever ( I prefer the Denons though)

Those things are going to need some power, take the money you saved and get the 805! What a deal

Yeah I actually just ordered the LSiC center channel from amazon, so that set me back another $500. Definately want to upgrade in the future.... I do have small satellite Harman Kardon Surround Speakers....but as long as I have my three front channels, i'm good for now. As far as "pushing them",do I run into any chance of damaging them at all? I'd rather wait and not plug them in than to take that risk.

Under-powering speakers is actually more likely to damage them than over-powering them.... it's called clipping, but either way, You don't need to worry about that with the 605 as it has more than enough power to prevent that from happening. I recommend you plug them in, and start enjoying them, and you'll soon see that the cost of upgrading to the 805 or other receivers since you just upgraded recently, isn't really necessary at this time.

I connected my B&W 703s 705s and HTM7 to a receiver that was 80W/channel (an old Marantz 4001) before I upgraded the receiver, and they're very power-hungry, and it sounded FANTASTIC.

Fantastic deal! Congratulations!

Hey, does your Onkyo TX-SR605 have pre-outs? If so, I'd suggest picking up a separate amp to power those bad boys. That way you can keep your Onkyo handling the rest of your system, while getting a quality amp to handle your front channels. With a sound meter you can perfectly calibrate your system to work seamlessly together.

OneCall.com currently has the Adcom GFA-5400 2 channel amp on sale for $489.68, and it works really well with 4 ohm loads. At 4 ohms it cranks out 200 watts per channel rated from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at an astonishingly low 0.018% THD. At $490, that's a steal.

Excellent advice as well. That gives you a separate component also, which helps for the future.

Ok, got them hooked up over the weekend. (God they're so sexxy looking!) When I turned it on, I used Black Hawk Down to check the sound. I noticed right away that something didn't sound right...it just sounded distorted or something...hard to explain as a Non-Audiophile. Could it be that they're just too much to handle for my onkyo TX-SR605? I mean they sound MUCH better than my old little satellites...but don't sound nearly as nice as when i listened to them at the previous owner's home. I even asked him if he had conditioned the walls or anything, he had said no. I think i'm either going to upgrade to the 805(or 806 if I can wait a little longer) or get one of these separate amps. I have the three front channels (LSi 25 x 2 and LSiC center channel) wired with 12 gauge MONSTER cable (I got the cable for free, not going to pay for it!) Any suggestions on what might be causing my issue?

I feel certain that they are underpowered if you are using a 605. It is possible that your equilizer settings need to be adjusted again too. What worked for your smaller speakers will not be the same for the LSi's. The previous owner probably had a really nice amp too if he was able to shell out the money for brand new LSi's so it is hard to tell what you are hearing. I noticed a dramatic increase when I got a new amp, you should too. You really need the 805 or higher. Perhaps the 905 for the extra power or possibly even a separate but those can get pretty costly. Just recheck your connections and upgrade that reciever, that setup is going to sound great!

maybe double-check the wiring, make sure nothing is crossing etc. I wouldn't think they would sound "distorted" with the amount of power the 605 has, but maybe you're just comparing them to the sound his setup produced, and if he has separates, or high-end components, the 605 can't hold a candle to a lot of amps sonically speaking.

Maybe you got your expectations set too high? Kinda like watching T.V after watching a Blu-Ray

Holy nice grab man! I'll trade you my RTi8's for 'em. Good deal m i rite?

Edit: Read the topic. Your 605 is not able to power these guys. You almost certainly need to go separates for them. The LSi25's are 4ohm speakers and I believe the 605 is not 4ohm capable so you could actually burn out your receiver from driving it too hard.
You'll need to buy an amp, or a nice receiver to drive these guys. Even a receiver probably won't have enough power to get their full potential out. But the Onkyo 805 does support 4ohm speakers.

Edit again: Just checked and the 605 is NOT certified for 4ohm speakers. If I were you I'd disconnect them now so you don't damage the speakers or especially the receiver.
Also, the 605 does NOT have pre-outs so you'll have to buy another receiver if you want to hook up an amplifier. I suggest getting a pre-processor and nice 5-channel amp.

You may need a beefier receiver to handle those puppies...

When I was speaker shopping I remembered reading on AVS about these guys being very power hungry, and seeing as they are rated at 4ohms and 88db sensitivity, it may be that the 605 isn't able to source the current well enough for them.

I would try just hooking them up to a more powerful amp is possible and seeing, as I doubt it's the speakers.
