Default PS3 80g make a difference?

I m thinking about buying a ps3 but mainly for movie playing not gaming. Will the 80g have more features then a 40g, or is an 80g just throwing money away?

80gbs= more usb slots then 40, 40 more gbs of space, backwards compatibility to ps2 and ps1 games while 40gig does not and i forget what else that the 40gig doesnt have the 80gig does have. but the 80gb is discontinued so if you know a place that has one then great the $100 more is well worth it

Gotta point out the mistake cause I made the same one a while back.

BOTH have PS1 backwards compatibility
and of course the 80 has PS2 backwards compatibility whereas the 40 does not.

But yeah, if you're just playing movies...and even if you just want to try out a few games. The 40 is a better bang for your buck.

I was under the impression that the 40 gb also had ps2 backwards compatibility. I thought it was just done through emulation now. Since the only real differenc ein power is the hard drive why would they not support the emulation?

Never Mind here is the info from Sony's web site. Still don't know why they don't just through in the ps2 emulation.

What is the difference between the 80GB and 40GB configurations?
Both the 80GB and 40GB PS3 models come standard with Cell Broadband Engine™ (Cell/B.E.), Blu-ray Disc™ (BD) player, built-in HDD, 1080p high-definition output, Wi-Fi connectivity and SIXAXIS™ wireless controller.

In addition to the larger HDD capacity, the 80GB model focuses on offering the incredible graphic quality, stunning gameplay, improved audio and visual fidelity that PS3 games are known for by maintaining the PlayStation®2 backwards compatibility through software instead of hardware. The new 40GB model will also be packaged with the Spider-Man™3 movie on Blu-ray Disc. The 40GB model does not have PS2 backwards compatibility, although does maintain backwards compatibility for original PlayStation titles. The 40GB PS3 has 2 USB ports, where the 80GB PS3 has 4 USB ports. In addition, the 40GB PS3 does not have the multi-media memory card slots. Consumers can use a variety of after-market accessories for transferring their media to PS3 via the USB ports.

I thought the 40GB PS3 has PS1 compatibility, just not PS2 compatibility because it lacks the Emotion Engine of the PS2?

Nope, 80gb does it through emulation...but 40 doesn't do it at all...not sure why (I'm sure someone has an explanation).

The 80GB model also has Super-Audio CD playback, while the 40GB does not.

The 40gb has the Wireless networking to the best of my recollection, it was only the 20gb model that did not.

For Movie playback, get the 40Gb model, best dollar value

thank you all very much. i might just wait for the 80g mgs4 pack. 500 dollars sounds like a pretty good deal for a system + one of the only games i would buy
