Default Newbie Question? I hope this is the right place for it.

I have a panny 42 inch plasma tv it only goes as high as 1080i. I will be viewing it around 10 to 12 feet away.
My question is Is it worth it fo me to get a blu ray dvd player? I think i read that it will scale it down to 720P. Will it look good all these facts considerd ?

I have a 50" samsung 1080i DLP and a blu-ray player. The picture is awesome, definately a major improvement over SDVD.

Its a huge improvement. You will not be disappointed by quality of the picture in 720p.

Even on my 46" 720p I noticed a difference from 10 feet away. I say go for it. When you eventually take the plunge on a 58", you'll be wishing you had.

And welcome to the forums.

Definetly recommends blu-ray upgrade. You would get a better picture quality in both 720p and 1080i modes. You may choose a mode best for you after testing. This could depend on the content.

Also, the upgrade may stop you collecting any further SD-DVDs which is history now.
