It was chilling to receive my shipping notice for this from BullMoose.com on Thursday and then all of five hours later see the Internet light up with news of Cicely’s passing.

This masterpiece has never gotten a good release, until now. The vhs was at EP speed and looked horrendous. The first dvd had artifacts. The 2nd dvd had a bad glitch. I am so happy this is coming out, although it is a sad time. Tyson's greatest performance (next to Sounder and Roots.)

Cecily Tyson had lived a long, blessed and prosperous life on this earth, and now she's passed away and will live eternally with God in Heaven, a place where there's no more sickness, pain nor sorrow and will never die.

It is sort of a primer for ROOTS. It is a fictional story of a former slave and her life. She tells it to a reporter when she is over 100 years old. Tyson plays her from very young to very old. Some of it is disturbing, of course. Katherine Helmond plays a real trashy, hateful woman. Her performance is great, but Tyson's is one for the history books. Winner of 9 Emmy Awards.

I searched every place and to my shock, the only place that had it in stock was WALMART! I made no delay in buying it. I just got it, but I did not unwrap it because the picture is 4:3, which I was not expecting. However, the surge in pricing will probably make me keep it.

It's a tv-movie from 1974. The correct aspect ratio is 4:3. Thank goodness they didn't matte it into incorrect "widescreen" as other companies sometimes do with older tv.

Yes, after looking it up, I realized it. However, since it was shot on film, I was hoping that they would have had a widescreen options. Many TV productions on film did record or are able to pull more info than 4:3. I could swear that Quantum Leap was one such show that pulled more info (when shown on HDTV) but not so much on BD. I could swear that I read that some place because it was one of the first HD broadcasts I saw of older material and it almost filled the screen with no clear loss of info.

Ah well. Looks like I will hold onto Jane Pittman since the prices have gone crazy and it is a BD-50. I will try to watch it before the Super Bowl and review it. I knew this would be a strong candidate to go out of print pretty fast, with high pricing. That is why I bought this as soon as I could, along with Claudine.

Because it's an Allied Vaughn pressed MOD item and Amazon hasn't played nice with them for a couple years or longer joining the list of studios, producers, and distributors they constantly screw up products and release dates.

It's not unusual for these new MOD items to sell out their first batch and take a week or two to restock (worse after COVID hit) and with Ms Tyson's death it may be longer before the 2nd wave it available.

My advice order anywhere else.

I ordered from walmart and it arrived 2 days later!!
