Default PS3 as Blu-Ray player question.

Okay, so right now I have a Sony S300 player, and I'm looking to update to something that has the ability to decode or bitstream the new audio codecs. Looking at prices the PS3 is probably the better of the choices out there right now. However, I'm confused as to the HD sizes of the PS3. Do I need a specific HD size to get the new codecs, or is the HD size specifically for backwards compatibility of gaming only?

As far as I know, the larger HDD is used for gaming like you stated. Obviously it can be used for downloads, music and such but it doesn't influence BD playback at all. (You'll get all the codecs including the DTS-MA, released this coming Tueday) So if that's all you care about, I'd recommend the 40 gig.

I also upgraded to the PS3 (40gig) from the S300 and never looked back. For the price, it's currently the best player on the market.

all ps3s do the new audio codecs , so yeah the 80gb has limited bacwards compatibility, the 40 gb had none and they both don't have a sacd player, also the 40gb has no memory cards slots and only 2 usb ports the 60 gb was the best, it does it all

The ONLY PS3 model without SACD capability is the 40GB. The 20GB, 60GB and 80GB have SACD playback.

If you want to view photos from your digicam, the 60/80GB is the one to get if you can find them because they have the built-in card readers.
