Matrix AND Animatrix on Blu-ray!

According to Mr Hunt, WB has confirmed that the Animatrix will come to Blu-ray at the same time the Matrix does later this year.
No word on if it will be in the box set with the matrix though.

And finally, here's a bit of new information that should excite fans of both Blu-ray Disc and The Matrix. Sources at Warner Home Video have confirmed to us that when The Matrix Trilogy makes its way to Blu-ray (likely in the 4th quarter, timed to the DVD and Blu-ray release of Speed Racer), The Animatrix will also be released on Blu-ray Disc in true 1080p high-definition. Whether it will be included in the box set or released separately (or both) is still TBD, but the simple fact that The Animatrix wasn't included in high-def in the HD-DVD box set was a key complaint for fans, so it's nice to know the studio is rectifying that on Blu-ray.

So that means it will be a blu centric encode correct? Since HDDVD never got the HD version. Hopefully they will also re-encode the three movies because of this, although Max and Wicky are saying not likely.

I'm extremely glad that the animatrix is also going to be HD. It better be included in the box set though (and I'm sure it will be). It would be pretty mean for Warner to release it in SD in the Boxset and HD seperately considering there isn't any way to get the trilogy without the animatrix is there?

Yes, so at least the Animatrix will be optimized for Blu-ray.
