Default Onky 605 + PS3 question

OK -- I'll start by saying I've used the S-E-A-R-C-H function and gotten all kinds of information from different places, and I think I understand the issues, but before I throw down next week and order my 605, I wanted to make sure I understand the "popping" thing.

If I'm understanding right, this is an issue with codecs (PCM, DTS-HDMA) that are bitstreamed to the receiver? Issues when the receiver is changing from one mode to another?

I do understand that with a PS3, the DTS-HDMA one shouldn't be an issue because it's PCM being sent. And yes, the PS3 will be my primary BD player for the foreseeable future, so that's how I'm looking at that issue.

Are there other instances (other than the DTS one) where the popping is occuring that I should concern myself with? Or do newer units/units with FW updates not have this problem anymore? I'm not so concerned with the DTS popping (which is what I see most threads are on), but the unit "popping" in other more routine things I'd be using it for...

There are SO many thread to go through on this. Sorry if I'm asking for repetition, guys.

Thanks!

Maybe better way to ask is how many of you Onkyo owners (and I know there are a lot here) with PS3s (and I know there are a lot here) are having "popping" issues with this receiver...

the only issue of the bitstream bomb is dts ma being bitstreamed. your not going to be affected in two ways. ps3 decoding and sending pcm and new units that are mfg now are fixed.

other popping issues seem to be related to settings.

Ok, this is what I thought...

I had read of other "popping" instances other than the DTS-MA thing, and wanted to know just how prolific those were.

With it being such a big purchase for me, I want to get the right thing. So I won't hesitate to ask something that's already been asked. I'm sure you understand.

the only other popping issues i read about was when the receiver would click when changing from different codecs like from dts to dd and so on. there seemed like some was doing it more than necessary and normal. but someone found a work around with the settings. dont remembere what it was right now.

FYI, Don't know if you have a Fry's close by but the ad today showed the Onkyo 605 for $399. I am waiting for the tax checks in may and I decided on the 805.

This must be the other thing I was reading about -- changing from different codecs/inputs, etc. Basically whenever it was changing from one thing to another...

As long as it's not an "issue" like the other thing, I won't fret too much about it then.

Thanks!

The closest one to me, actually, is about 30 miles away. And on southern California freeways, that equates to about 45 minutes, if not more.

amazon right now has it for 360 (free shipping - the silver model) and I think Crutchfield.com is selling it for 399 (free shipping as well). Will probably go with one of those two.

I just got the silver 605 from amazon. Free shipping, got it in 3 days. Very happy with it.

Oh and I haven't had any popping issues.
