Default PS3 Newbie Game Recommendations

I just bought a PS3 this weekend (40GB) to go with my new Samsung 40" LCD in my room. This generation I've only had a Wii so far.

Can anyone provide me recommendations if I tend to like the following:

Super Mario
Zelda
Metroid
Mario Kart
Smash Brothers
Eternal Darkness
Resident Evil 4
Super Paper Mario

I played the PS2 some and liked:
Katamari Damacy
Kingdom Hearts
Rez

From your list I'd say Resistance Fall of Man or Warhawk (or both ) and Uncharted Drake's Fortune would be good games for you.

Since you liked Rez you might like Everyday Shooter on PSN.

That is based on my highly scientific conclusion based on your list of games.

It would be a lot easier if your entire list of franchises you like wasn't built out of Nintendo franchises.

I'd suggest Ratchet and Clank: Future. Great game and has some overall quirkiness/humor that is on par with Mario games (Super Paper Mario in general) and other games you mentioned.

Yeah, R&C, and then just fill out with JRPGs that come out when you're done with that. Pick up some launch titles if you must but don't expect too much.

Default Lair

Get the Lair game, great visuals, awesome soundtrack. Also, new update which does not require sixaxis controls to fly the dragons!

Definitely Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of destruction. Maybe MotorStorm and Heavenly Sword.

I agree with the earlier choice of Ratchet and Clank.

I'd also recommend these:

The Lego Star Wars Saga
Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds

From PSN, Super Stardust HD and maybe Pixel Junk Racers.

The Holy Trinity...

#1. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
#2. ROCK BAND
#3. Unreal tournament III

With these 3 titles you get a little bit of everything. Action/Adventure, very addictive music/rythm, and first person shooter that has sustainability through user content modification.

Rock Band without a doubt is my favorite game on PS3.
Warhawk is my second favorite.
If you buy these two games, you are set. They will take up all your time.

But if you have money to burn:

Oblivion GOTY Edition
Lego Star Wars is great if you haven't played part I or II and has dropped in price.
Orange Box and Lair are on clearance for $30 each at most Targets right now.
Everyday Shooter and PixelJunk Monsters are great PSN downloads.

PS: Do NOT buy Resistance. Warhawk puts all other "shooter" games to great shame. Resistance 2 is on the way out as well.

Warhawk is a third person shooter... unless you meant to juxtapose the two genres like that...

That being said, Resistance was "meh" in my opinion but definitely worth buying at the cheap used prices you can get it at now.

since you seem to like some adventure type games with RPG elements, I would recommend Folklore. I picked it up when I got my system. I haven't made it too far in yet becuae I'm playing a bunch of other things right now, but it's pretty fun.

Very well put. I also agree with you on the demos. Download lots of them. They are great and give you a good feel for the game.

And it would give us more information on the games the op likes, classical games can only say so much.

And it will not cost the op a dollar thats the great thing.

I had originally created this in notepad and discovered that the forum does not like tabbing, and thus has to create my own system of organization..

I Left one genera empty because I was not sure, the Puzzle(move the block) genera this is a common one but im unsure of a demo that answers this.
