Well, your blu-ray player is the front end. You use the HDMI output to connect it to the receiver's HDMI input. You also plug your cable box into the receiver. You then use the receiver HDMI output to run a cable to the Xbr4 input. This will allow you to use the receiver as a switcher between the cable and the blu-ray player, to simultaneously switch audio and video.

The Sony HTSF2000 has 3 hdmi in's(it is not HDMI 1.3 compliant ) and a pass thru out but it's audio decoding is only Dolby digital and Dts so each piece of equipment needs to be hooked up by optical or co-ax digital to the corresponding HDMI input they are well labeled and should be easy to find.

If it's not too late to return your receiver, you could exchange it for one that's HDMI 1.3 compliant. That will allow you to run both video and audio over HDMI. Otherwise, you will need to buy optical cables and run those from your components to the receiver while selecting the settings for the components and receiver to output and decode audio via optical.

Run your optical from the blu-ray player to the receiver. You may need to run another from the cable box to the receiver.

No, you just need the video signal going to your TV via HDMI.

Your cable box should have a SPDIF output(co-ax digital) which means you can use a standard RCA cable to connect it for digital sound the HTFS2000 has two optical inputs and one Co-AX dig.

I have the same system. the HT-SF2000 and the XBR4, along w/ the Bluray 300. Now, I am going to purchase the monster cables because i've tried the cheap cables and they are not the best. If I just use the monster cables I should be fine. I went to the sonystyle store here in california and they told me that I should be fine w/ just the HDMI cables. They have it set-up there the same way. My only issue is that I cannot get it to be a 5.1 channel. It always comes up as 3/2.1 Does anyone know how to change it?
