Do you fine folks thing the addition of an external fan is worth it for the PS3? I see walmart and gamestop carry them for 26bucks.....my PS3 runs cool, even with extended play, but maybe the additional cooling would benefit the internals.

Yeah, most of the fans on Amazon are a piece of junk as well. They are either too loud, or too inconvient. It's not needed at all, well maybe if you keep your living area say 250 degrees F then you migh have a problem.

As a "fine folk" like myself
![]() The PS3 never overheats for the most part. If mine were to ever overheat (say more than once a month), i would immediately call sony and get a replacement before any more problems happen. I personally would never in a million years buy an interncooler though. Its up to you obviously... I can strongly recommend that you dont though. ![]() |

I've heard horror stories about these fans. I think you are safer without one, personally. Overheating isn't nearly as prevalent of an issue with the PS3 as it is with XBox. I think you should be more worried about dust or a BD drive death than anything.
And if you are super picky about operating temperature, tests have proven that the PS3 runs reasonably cooler sitting horizontally as opposed to standing vertically. Just FYI. |

Using one of the exterior cooling attachments to the PS3 actually voids the warranty if I'm not mistaken. There are none that are sanctioned by Sony. In fact, I think I remember reading an article from back when the system was first launched that stated they do more harm to the unit than good.
