I want to buy a ps3, and want to use my existing preamp/amp combo to drive the left and right main speakers. I want to buy the least expensive receiver than can intake dd/dts and send the l/r analog signal out the preouts to my separates. Is that possible? Some have said that HDMI will only come out analog at the speaker terminals; not the pre-outs. Is that true?
Another option would be to use the fiber out to a receiver and send the l/r main out the preouts. Is that possible? |

You want to send the signal from the receiver to the pre-amp? Why not use the receiver as the pre-amp, or use the pre-amp as the...well...pre-amp?

ah, my pre and amp are stereo only "audiophile" toys and i want them to continue to drive the left and right main speakers during movies. the ps3 doesn't have analog 5.1 coming out the back of the unit so i want to get the digital 5.1 decoded by an (inexpensive) receiver and let the receiver amplify the center and rears. i just want to make sure that the pre-outs are "live" when the receiver is fed its signal from an HDMI or fiber source.

You can use the pre-outs on your receiver to pass the front speaker signals to the amp but I have no idea how you would pass it through the receiver to the pre-amp and then the amp.
Sorry hopefully someone else here has some ideas. |

Does anyone know of any problems with the hdmi signal being sent out through the analog pre-outs? is it true that the pre's are "dead" when the input is hdmi?
