Default Harmony remotes with Onkyo 605

Considering buying a Harmony One or Harmony 1000 learning remote...my question is....on the onkyo 605...you have to be standing somewhat in front of the receiver for the remote to work....if you stand to the side..it wont work...with a learning remote..will i have this problem...does the connectivity suck because of the remote, or because of the receiver? I'd think anybody using a universal remote with their Onkyo can answer.....

If you're referring to the Onkyo remote, yeah its terrible. I find it far easier to use my Harmony remote for the basics.

so the "line of sight" is better with a universal/harmony remote?

I have a Harmony 880 remote, and my receiver is approx. 35 degrees off the center line of my TV, I have to point the remote to the left channel speaker to have it turn on my 805, TV, and everything else on my AV rack.

It's funny, I have an IR dimmer for my lights, and yet the wall outlet switch is approx. 80 degrees off my TV, and pointing it at the left speaker still dims the lights...go figure.

what i was referring to was the remote in line of sight with the ir receiver on your unit. i never had issues with remotes unless there was something blocking the signal

I have the Harmony One and the 605. Works fine, even from high/low/wide angles.

I've had great success with the Harmony 1000 and Onkyo receiver.

You could always get the add-on RF extender and then you could be on the opposite side of your house and it'll still work no problem.
