Default Used Madden/Gamestop Question

I picked up Madden 09 used from Gamestop this weekend and I need some help figuring this out.

I went in, saw no used copies on the shelf. I asked the guy if there was any used Madden 09s for PS3. He said yes, he knew he had one and i asked if he could help me find it cause i didn't see it.

he walked over and pulled the collectors edition off the shelf, it had a $54.99 price tag on it, typical for a newly released used game non-special edition. he told me right off the bat, before i could even ask a question that there was no bonus material with the game, just the game itself and thats why it was the regular used price.

i was like, ok, and i bought it.

then i was thinking, why was that on the shelf?

- if somebody was going to drop $90 on a special edition, would they seriously sell it to gamestop for a used price within a week? Probably Not.

- if somebody did do that, why would they take all the bonus material out of it before they sell it back used? Makes no sense to me.

ive seen many shaddy things before on shelves on gamestop, but ive alwasy been able to figure out why they are there, this one has me stumped. does somebody have any theories to why a used collector's edition with nothing but the game was on the shelf at a gamestop within a week of release?

i find with my edge card its worth buying used games from them sometimes. i picked up madden for $48.50, which is a pretty good deal I thought. i picked up lego star wars for $27.50 a few months ago.

Sure its used, but down at gamestop, the games are never in the cases anyways, so really its all the same to me.

Want a used game don't use ebgames or gamestop. Check out Amazon or ebay. I have found great deals on Amazon. Scored a used mint grand theft for $28 including shipping. Those fine retailers wanted 40 or more. No thanks.

well this thread is heading off in a different direction than my OP.

but, i do have some issues with buying online v. Gamestop. Please don't get me wrong, I hate gamestop with a passion, but there are some things i have had trouble with on the internet and games.

1. Quality. Now, I have yet to run into a problem with PS3 games, most likely cause they are blu-ray, but I find Gamestop to have much more reliable products than ebay or amazon sometimes when it comes to disc scratches. I stopped buying PS2/PS1 games from online, because they all freeze and don't work due to scratches. Im sick of dealing with some A-clown online who sold me a old God of War scratched up game for $5 that he knew didn't work. Im not going to go to great lengths to get my $5 back, its not worth my time, all i can do is give him a bad rating. Go down to GS, GoW is in working condition for a little extra.

2. Booklets. Gamestop usually has the booklet with the game, I won't usually buy otherwise. This is really hit and miss if you are going to get an instruction manual with an used online purchase.

3. Timing. Not only can you not get the game as fast as gamestop, sometimes it takes a ridiculous amount of time to get to my house. Like up to two weeks in some cases.

I agree completely. Gamestop is a sketchy company and has some shady business practices, notably not treating its employees that great, but as far as used games go it's generally the best place to go for all of the aforementioned reasons.

Could have been a gift to somebody who doesn't like playing Madden.

ya but i don't think you would do that with the collector's edition unless he kept the extras? ( no idea what's collected in the collector's)

I don't know if there is anything "shady" happening behind. maybe the person got another copy for his birthday , maybe gamespot is doing something shady. a lot of maybe's, no real way to find out unless you work there i'm assuming. I'll ask my friend tonight , he works at ebgames in canada see what he says

as for online buying? Half.com is King in my opinion. i miss it dearly now that i live in canada. Just look at their ratings and their feedback and that's good enough for me. I had over 60 transactions on half and never once had a problem. I could usually buy the game cheap and than sell it back for a small margin more on ebay , like 2-3 bucks.

Are you sure you really got the collector edition game, and not just the regular game in the collector packaging?

The collector game has the classic Madden '93 game as well as some videos on it.

I've been buying games on Ebay for years, and I've never encountered an issue to speak of. As long as you read the condition and purchasing terms carefully, and you stick with sellers who have a long track record at 99% positive or better, you'll be fine.

Just yesterday I received a like new copy of Grand Theft Auto IV, along with the Brady strategy guide, for $25.50 shipped. ($20,50 auction price, $5.00 shipping). Well, the seller missed getting the package in the mail the day after I won it, so he two-day shipped it Saturday with shipping confirmation at no additional cost to me. I didn't ask him to do it, but he wanted to ensure I was happy with the transaction. What was his actual shipping cost? $15.20.

Anyway, there are fantastic deals on Ebay as long as you set your own guidelines and stick to them.
