yes yes, and i'd like a pony, and a few ferraris, and oh! my own planet... fully staffed by gorgeous and skimpily clothed (if at all) 18-25 yo females....

700-800 full package is HTiB pricing, and HTiB =\= quality. period. For that price if i was you i'd look for an Onkyo package or some similar but don't expect too much out of that or any of the HTiB category (especially not the true HTiBs). Then again if I were me i'd sit on the 700-800 until it became 8000-10000 and then get some thing quite good. But if that isn't an option for you (or not an interest) atleast sit on it until it becomes 3000 where you can get a lot of good quality and wonderfully sounding systems.

Onkyo HT-SP908 is around your price range with everything. If you get it, get at least 14 guage wire. Plus, it is full HDMI audio(1.3). It should be pretty good for what you're looking for.

If you don't have anything buy the onkyo home theater in a box systems or a 605 for about 400 and a 7.1 set of onkyo speakers from amazon for about 350. I know a lot of people frown upon the home theater in a box systems but it is better then nothing and frankly I could think of better ways to spend 10k.

If you already have a sorround sound setup then I wouldn't bother spending the money on a marginal upgrade. Save up for some nice speakers if you want to upgrade a current system.

The Onkyo HT-SP908 has the 605, the speakers you're talking about and a very good DVD player (use Blu-ray). All for $699 on Amazon. If you wish, you could also look online for other deals(I would look but I'm being lazy )

It's ok! I have the SR-800 too, but with some upgraded speaker wire and speakers along with my personal tweaking.

Edit: I am very ready to sell my reciever and the 4 extra speakers I have from it too!

Did the upgrade wire make a big difference? The problem I have with this 7.1 system is that since it does not pass audio through hdmi I can't get anything to play true 7.1. I wish the salesman had let me know that this was just a pass through hdmi reciever.

I have a Blu ray player. What is really going to wow me. 1000 dollars on a freaking audio system is more than my tv basically.

Your sig says you have a 6.1 system right? Sorround Sound will wow you when you feel the movie around you. When you can hear the ambient noise behind you or feel the explosions, but now for less then 1000 dollars your not going to get much of an improvement over what you currently have.

Personally I have a HTIB made by Onkyo. It is not great but it is sorround sound eventually I want to upgrade the reciever to get audio through my hdmi connection, but the speakers are going to wait until I have about 4k to spend on some quality speakers.

If I were you I would use the 50 dollar gift card on some blu-rays and keep the rest of my money in the bank for now.

Absolutely! The wire was like switching from TV speakers to crisp surround sound. Oh and yeah, I wish he would have told me too!

I say if you at least have HD, PQ won't get anymore important as SQ. The better the SQ, the better the experience. You can spend $500 on a HDTV-like me- and spend about twice as much or more on sound.

that is the best bang for the buck for decent starter system that can be upgraded. Please do not let other people on this forum discourage you from buying this system because they feel you need high end speakers now. Also the upconverting dvd player can be used on another TV or given as a gift.

He did say he was looking for the whole package though for his price range. He could easily go overboard with speakers. Plus, the $50 gift card won't do too much damage for speakers at Best Buy. He could use that money toward Blu-rays, speaker wire, cables, ect.

You gotta love Best Buy! Shopping around online is always good. I think the Onkyo HT-SP908 would be best at this point. He can always upgrade when his budget allows!
