Default Samsung G2 BD player at CES?

Quote:
The company, which was the first to introduce a Blu-ray high-definition DVD player last year, will announce its second-generation player next week. The new model is expected to cost about 20 percent less than the current version, but will have more interactive functions.

20% less than what I wonder? The release price of $1000 or the current selling price of circa $600 or the pre runout price of about $700? Not long until we find out. I wonder how many other G2 players will be out and about.

Samsung to debut first second-gen Blu-ray player at CES

http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/01/04...player-at-ces/

Quote:
The new player is expected to cost 20 percent less than its predecessor (the BD-P1000, pictured above), but contain more interactive functions. We hope that means this will be the first non-PlayStation 3 device to support BD Live features, although we'll have to wait and see. As far as joining LG with a hybrid player like the one it had announced and then denied last year, the company currently has "no plans" to do so, but could if the market remains divided. Other products we can expect to see next week include even larger versions of Samsung's Slim DLP HDTVs, and an all new line of plasmas going all the way up to 80 inches.

Sounds great, but after testing all the first gens I could get my hands on, the Sammy had the worst PQ of all I tried. I hope that is going to be their biggest improvement in the 2nd gen.

SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS BREAKS NEW GROUND IN BLU-RAY TECHNOLOGY

One of the BD-P1200 player¡¯s key new features is its Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) processor, which is a powerful unit similar to those used by Hollywood production studios. With its HQV processor, the BD-P1200 player offers true 1080i to 1080p HD de-interlacing, so it can deliver the best HD images possible ?

I couldn't find a price in the release. I wonder if they want to see what Toshiba and perhaps others offer price wise before setting it at the last minute.

Pardon, why does it need 1080i to 1080p deinterleacing? Isn't the source on all BDs 1080p?

No, things shot "live" with an HDTV 1080i camera are 60i and have to be deinterlaced to 60p for display on a 60p display (LCD, DLP, Plasma, etc)

The HQV is one of the top (if not the top) 60i to 60p deinterlacers (they even make test DVDs for testing motion deinterlacing). Hopefully makes 60i look almost shot at 60p with little smearing.

Do you know if 1080p/24fps is confirmed? So far I can't see it in the announcements. But most likely I'll be getting this one ASAP. When is it schedualed to be released?

You know, I see a problem coming soon...

This forum will be filled with BD-player-review stickied threads by the end of the year.

Haha.

So true :P

Looks good and definitely LOTS and LOTS better than the first one without sacrificing anything.

Although.....it is unclear if it supports the new audio codecs (DTS HD-MA and Dolby Digital TrueHD)....or if Samsung would release a firmware for it.

The website doesn't seen to state advanced audio codec support.

Any news from Pioneer and Panasonic about future players? If not it will probably be CEDIA in September before we hear about any other new players.

You can be certain that, from all the Blu-Ray DVD manufacturers, all the perfections we want in our players will be in there, all bugs worked out, and totally ready for mass acceptance from consumers by CEDIA, including better price points. This event will most likely be the final nail in the coffen of Toshiba and HD-DVD . Bye HD-DVD, the battle has just been won!

Now, if only the price of the movies would just come down some !!!

So sall we assume that it doesn't have1080p/24fps, can't find it in any specs so far.
Also, when is it gonna be out, and was there any word about startup/load times?

Gary posted a link about it a few posts above.

It will use the Holywood Quality Video processor to do 1080i and 1080p (with 24 and 30 fps support). HDMI 1.3 is also part of the mix.

Now the only question left is if it has advanced audio codec support.....or not.

Which is which?
