Hi folks,
Can anyone tell me what the snow like screen is and what it's doing when you start playing a blu-ray. It flickers on and the off again after a second. I was just curious Cheers |

well, without knowing more about your set-up its kinda hard to say.
It sounds like the hdcp handshake is having trouble...or your cable could be loose/defective? or even a problem with your components? but you left out important info such as what TV, Receiver, Bluray player you have? how is it connected? hdmi cable? how long is the cable? does it go away after the initial startup or do you see "snow" during the movie? |

Interesting, this happens to me from time to time - right before playing a BD movie I'll get a little snow - and right after returning to the PS3 screen.
My conclusion is that if I turn the PS3 on before the TV, this happens - handshake issues. Turn the TV on first. |

Sorry, didn't realise it was a problem so didn't post setup.
I've got Samsung 46" LCD (LE46M87BD) and i'm using PS3 to watch Blu-ray movies. Connected via 1m HDMI cable. It only lasts a couple of seconds when I start a movie, not a game and never comes back during playback. Cheers |

In some instances like start of a movie, PS3 resyncs HDMI. In my case, "x-> HDMI" appears on the display which is an indication that HDMI is resyncing and this goes away in about a second or so. It looks like some displays handle this differently and your case snow appears on your screen.
This is one possible explanation only. There could be other reasons for the symptom that you explained. |

Could you remember whether it is the firmware upgrade or the cable. If it is the firmware, which upgrade if you are referring to PS3. Thanks.

I think he means firmware update to the TV not PS3. I've had a look about but I don't think I can do it myself. Guess i'll have to try the HDMI instead.

Okay. That explains it. The firmware upgrade to the TV might have made it to display a black screen when an input is resyncing.
