Default Sony BRAVIA XBR 2008 roadmap leaked

http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/14/s...oadmap-leaked/

Good news for the pixel-starved: Boy Genius got a hold of a Sony's 2008 BRAVIA roadmap, which includes word of new XBR6, XBR7 and XBR8 LCD displays. We caught wind of the new XBR6 line at CES, along with the KDL-40Z4100 and the KDL-46Z4100, but apparently things are going to get much more interesting in August when the KDL-46XBR8 drops. New features include "Triluminos" RGB LED backlight, Advanced Contrast Enhancer PRO and BRAVIA Engine 2 PRO 1080p video processor. The XBR7 panels measure as large as 70-inches, and will launch in October, but sport features more in line with the XBR6. Everything is naturally 1080p and 120Hz.

The XBR8 series, if it lives up to billing and those specs work out...might finally be that "next level" a lot of fence sitters like me have been waiting for.

I'm just bracing myself to see what one of those XBR8's will cost, though.

The XBR8 might finally be it. It sure looks like it on paper going into it.

yeah the xbr8 looks like its gonna be a good line. looks like they're using 6 and 7 as more of a refresh of 4 and 5. so i'd expect a decent premium for the 8's

I'm feeling exactly the same, and I'm still languishing back in 720p. Eesh...

If you had to hazard a guess, what would you say they'll want for it? I know it's gonna hurt.

Forgive my ignorance regarding this subject. I'm curious why the color processors and panels aren't 12 bit? Is this even possible in the near furture (i.e., 2008)?

I can't to see what the price of the XBR8's are. I've been holding off buying a flat panel display and have been debating between LCD and Plasma, I might have to wait a liitle bit longer...

Did anyone see it says the component inputs support 1080p? Is that possible I think I missed something if it is. I guess if it is it will be hard to find a source that uses it without hdcp.

That Triluminus backlighting sounds interesting. Didn't they do something similar to that with their QUALIA HDTV?

Pricing is going to be insane (a lot of QC has to go into LED backlighting) but it should provide absolutely stunning results.

The 46 xbr8 will probably roll out at about $4000 msrp. People will pay and you may even face backorders at some retailers.

i have a 46xbr3 and believe me - i keep getting stunned at its performance and picture quality every time i watch something in HD, especially 1080p content. Its hard to imagine how good the XBR 5 would top this, and THEN now the XBR8!!!

Im thinking about selling my 46xbr3 now that im drooling over the 46xbr8 and its features. any takers??

Question XBR4 or wait for the new Bravias???

I've been drooling over an XBR4 for months. Considering the new guys will have some kind of contrast enhancing software - are there any XBR4 owners here that think waiting for the new line is worth it just for enhancing contrast? Are you happy with the XBR4's contrast ability and black levels?

Cheers, Doc.

If the source is good, my blacks are great. Not $6500.00 plasma good, but DAMN close.
