Default Warner: HD DVD Outsells Blu-ray 2:1 in 2006

Grubert did the math here:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=784579

Anyone remember 11:1? or 7:1? Well, ended up being only 2:1. That is changing very fast.

I think Universal is punching well above their weight in the HD stakes, I think that eventually we will see Fox/MGM, Sony, and Disney release more and more titles grabbing a larger market share for the total market, especially now that Universal have not announced any titles.

On a side note if it was 2:1 for the whole year, HD DVD was out for 8 months of the year, and BD only for 5 months of the year, so lets do a bit more maths.

1.92/(0.66):1/(0.4167) = 2.88:2.4 = 1.2:1

These numbers are extrapolated to take into account that HD DVD as been out for more time, and what it would look like if both had been out for the same amount of time.

If Superman returns got an Mpeg2 and uncompressed sound ,i'm Sure The message will be the opposite and lets not forget too ,that are still many titles done only for HD-DVD (Batman Begins,V for Vendetta,,,,).

This is obvious to have this result, but wait once these titles will be released excluding Superman Returns and many titles promised us to be release in 2007

Blu-ray Will exceeded HD-DVD by a mile

This is taking into account that the trends stayed the same during that time too... Personally I could care less about last years sales. All people have to do it look at the current release list for BD for the next couple of months and then compare it to the release list of HD-DVD. Don't forget that people everywhere are reporting BD sections of stores that are in total disarray and sold out. Don't forget about FUD.com's store of choice, Amazon.com being sold out of every BD title.

All I know is the studios need to be sending the store replinishment fast. If an average customer goes into the BD section it looks like BD has no titles compared to HD-DVD due to the BDs being sold out.

Data is important. The interpretation of data however is only important in helping people make up their minds either truthfully or untruthfully.

2:1 sales ratio is a good sign for a format that launched late and saw the biggest jump in the last few months of 2006. The Fox sales projection rate is also a good sign but of course that has yet come to pass.

Ultimately want you want to see at next year's CES is that even if it still exist, HD-DVD is the alternative HD format that exist only in the US.
