Reign of Fire for HD-DVD in Asia Already!?! - Blu-ray Forum

I was in a store looking at the variety of BD and HD DVD. And I noticed a several imports in the HD DVD side. To my own disbelief I had a "Reign of Fire" in HD DVD format in my hands!!! It was obvious that the title originated from Asia. What is even more disconcerting is that this store was a legitimate franchise!! Although the title was selling for over $70.00 CAD. WTF!!! Is "Reign of Fire" not a BVHV? Please some explanations. Anyone???

It's an import, hence the ridiculous pricing and most likely Japanese printing on the case. Reign of Fire is distributed by someone other than Disney overseas, hence they can press an HD-DVD. No big deal, there are a few titles like that. Of course it works both ways. You can get HD-DVD stuff like Cinderella Man, Scary Movie 4 on BD in Japan as well.

I don't know about "Asia" but in South East Asia, it's under BVHE. So BD eventually.

Japan BDs are region 1 as US BDs? Can I play them in my Sammy?

Yes, they will play on all U.S. players. I was about to order the Japanese Layer Cake BD before I saw it announced at CES.

Is there a possiblity with the new firmware updates that the non region coded BD players can become regional?

Yeah, checked it out. So far can't find any HD DVDs already released don BD in there.
