Seinfeld and friends have been discussed, but with the possible exception of Seinfeld I don't expect any for several years

yes it took quite a while for tv shows to become mainstream for dvd. I wouldn't expect any different for blu-ray.

Though it might take a while, I'm glad I've staved off Seinfeld then on DVD (if there's ANY chance at all it's coming).

I want the whole set, and BD would be awesome!

Same with Threes Company and The Golden Girls. I ended up getting the DVDs of those since theres no chance of a blu-ray on them.

I'd love to eventually see some old school sitcoms make their way to Blu-ray. Three that come to mind, would be 'Happy Days', 'The Honeymooners', and 'The Wonder Years'. Those are three off the top of my head that I loved, and I think it would be great to see them on Blu-ray some day.

Well..

Lets take Happy Days for example.

Go to IMDB site for the show.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070992/

Click on Technical Specs.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070992/technical

It lists:

Film negative format (mm/video inches)
35 mm

35mm = Film = HD Capable.

not to be rude or anything but if its not at your local store then there is a good chance that its a no and also you could use the search option and try to find it on here to see if or when it will be available or even just see what others have to say

I have no evidence but i personally think that was simply because they had no idea it would make as much money as it does.

while im on it i have a question. I dont understand the logic of studios holding off on most big name titles. Studios dont put out big titles because the install base is low, but people dont buy in because they dont have the big name titles. catch 22 in my eyes. I know this has worked for the studios in the past, but doesnt it make sense to entice people to buy in sooner so they (the studios) will make money sooner rather then later?

Minds immeasurably superior to mine, please enlighten me.

This is true, however, the new Day/Date blockbusters are what they are hoping will force you do dive in and build up the userbase. Im sure a lot of people are going to want to see Indiana Jones/Wall-E/The Dark Knight, etc etc, in HD 1080p this holiday season.

That makes Fonzie happy once more. In all seriousness though, I can't imagine spending an exorbitant amount of money on sitcoms in a Blu-variety. It would have to be something that I truly loved, and would watch over and over again. Those three that I mentioned above would qualify, but it's few and far between (I didn't look up the other two yet).

Whether or not it's shot on video or film, I'd more than likely buy the DVD set anyway. Television just isn't as important to me as films. Not to say that there's not some marvelous shows out there, but it's secondary to me compared to actual films.

That said, I'm really psyched for Firefly. That will be a day one purchase for me, as I'm completely enamored with the series (Serenity movie as well). That's the type of series that will have infinite replay value to me personally, and I'm looking forward to it.

Think about it like a carrot on a stick syndrome. If they drop all of their classic catalog titles too early, then you have a hard time keeping people satisfied with just day and date releases. You have to entice people, and keep them looking ahead with their eyes on whatever 'prize' they covet, and in turn you keep them as a customer with your hardware. They want to promote and foster longevity, at all costs.

What if the format becomes obsolete before all shows and movies can make it to the existing format.

Don't we start all over again without ever getting what we were hoping or waiting for on each format with that Studio mentality?
They can take that carrot and...

Seinfeld thanks, How I Met Your Mother on Blu-ray would also be legendary.

My take on it is that the studios want to get the maximum bang for their marketing/advertising buck.
If Fox announced Star Wars on Blu-ray today, they're pitching to a potential user base of what, 5 million, PS3-as-BD-Player argument notwithstanding. If they wait until the market matures somewhat, they may have a potential market of 30 million.
Granted, something like Star Wars will sell hardware, but not 25 million units.
Whether they're selling to 5 million or 30 million, it would still cost them the same for TV spots, print advertising, etc; so presumably they wouldn't want to shoot their marketing load unless big revenue is guaranteed.

* the figures I use aren't important, just the notion
