As most members know, I love both films dear, and I can't decide what is better. I can't have two films as in my number 1 slot, so I'll need to decide which is better, so I'll give you this.
If you have seen both movies, give each of them one point for which is better in each Category, and then see which one comes up with the most points at the end. The Categories being... Best Actor Best Actress Best Supporting Cast Best Director Best Story Best Script Best Action Best Effects Best everything else (Pacing, Soundtrack, etc) And then vote in the poll. |

In Scott Pilgrim I love almost every character and there's so much heart and uniqueness.
Kick-Ass has a few great characters and a lot of decent ones but it feels more like a twist on other movies than a truly new experience. Don't get me wrong Kick-Ass is great and I'm really excited for the sequel. It's just not quite up there with Scott Pilgrim for me. |

Tough one, but I'll have to go with Scott Pilgrim. It made a lot of homages to video games and anime, and had more memorable moments and characters compared to Kick-Ass. Don't get me wrong; I loved Kick-Ass, but Scott Pilgrim is much more suited for a broader audience and has more memorable scenes.

So I watch my Scott Pilgrim steelbook just now and am coming to conclusions
![]() Best Actor Micheal Cera Vs Aaron Johnson It's a hard one this one, Micheal Cera isn't a person with much range, but in this film he does go out of his way to make sure he at least plays a character (I mean even in Youth in Revolt, his alternative persona was just him with a mustache) and to be honest, Micheal Cera looks like an old lady. But in Scott Pilgrim, he does have great comedic timing, sure it might come down to the direction, but he shows he is very capable of this acting sort of thing. Scott Pilgrim is the best Micheal Cera has done, so while in some areas he flanders in his acting within the film, he, for the most part nails the role. Aaron Johnson on the other hand is different comes across as a talented actor, but never really reaches his true potential in Kick-Ass. The best thing in his performance is that he's 20-something year old English person, can anyone in this thread tell me if that hit them during the film. The problem is, thoughout the film, all he does is come across as an average guy, that's the character, there is very little to his character, I'm not saying he's a bad character, I'm just saying there little to him. Micheal Cera just impresses more in his role. Scott Pilgrim 1 Kick-Ass 0 Best Actress Mary Elizibeth Winstead Vs Chloe Moretz No argument here, sure it's part of Winsteads' character to be disinterested. But it doesn't fold well when up against Hit Girl. Chloe Moretz is charismatic and funny that the character is, while bringing the 12 year old girl that makes her work, bringing a human side to the bite-size mass murderer. Scott Pilgrim 1 Kick-Ass 1 Best Supporting Cast Hmm, another easy, but yet, a sad one. Kick-Ass has it's great supporting cast, Nicholas Cage's Big Daddy is hilarious, and shows what a great actor he can be when he actually gets off his ass and tries, Mark Strong's villian is very funny and is another highlight of the movie. But Kick-Ass equally has it duds, Dave's Girlfriend and his friends leave littler impressions. This is where Scott Pilgrim takes the point, it delivers in both quantity and quality, every character has at least an 3rd dimension to them, and even have their singular moment to shine. Scott Pilgrim 2 Kick-Ass 1 Best Director Edgar Wright Vs Matthew Vaughn Another easy one, Matthew Vaughn is a good director, but in Kick-Ass you never feel like his direction leaves an impact, it kinda feels like anyone could of done it. But Scott Pilgrim, every shot of film has Edgar Wright's name on it, he tries harder to fit the most into every shot. Something is always going on, some of the background stuff that you can miss on first viewing will catch you another time you watch it. Scott Pilgrim 3 Kick-Ass 1 Best Story Now a hard one. Scott Pilgrim's story is very imaginative and meaningful, it's about people coming to terms with various stuff in an unusual way. And it does make for a very unique film. But also, if you're a person who can't stand stuff not making sense and spontaneously happening, then don't watch Scott Pilgrim. Kick-Ass is more typical, with a beginning, middle and end, all glued together with a mismatch of superhero conventions either being shattered or twisted to suit the films dark needs. Both films are very unpredictable at moments, while also very conventional. I think for this one Kick-Ass has to take it, sure it's the easier option, but it feels like a more complete film, while Scott Pilgrim always seems to be going off in a number of directions at anyone time. Scott Pilgrim 3 Kick-Ass 2 Best Script Yeah, another easy one, Kick-Ass has a number of great lines and whatnot, but there is always the abysmal cringeworthy lines like the one that always catches me at the start of the film "The only superpower I had was being invisible too girls" ![]() As I said before, Scott Pilgrim's script always has one character say at least one great line in the film. You also get a great sense of distance and history between all the characters in Scott Pilgrim though the script, and that's how Scott Pilgrim topples Kick-Ass Scott Pilgrim 4 Kick-Ass 2 Best Action Oddly enough, I don't think you'll guess what this one will be going towards. Kick-Ass's action always gets me pumped up, it's so well shot and paced. It just gets me all hyper thinking about it, let alone watching. I walked out the theatre pumped full of adrenaline when I saw it the first time, and I still do now when ever I watch it. Scott Pilgrim has some of the best fight scenes of all time in it, it felt like seeing the lobby scene from The Matrix for the first time, pure awesome that feels like nothing else before, just catered to perfection. But Kick-Ass wins the point for an odd reason. Scott Pilgrim always feels good watching the action scenes (and there are more of them in it) but Kick-Ass's action scenes just stick in the mind more. Scott Pilgrim 4 Kick-Ass 3 Best Effects Don't need to go into much detail for this one, Scott Pilgrim has the best effects all year to me. Scott Pilgrim 5 Kick-Ass 3 Best Everything Else I went though everything else I like within films, and I found that Scott Pilgrim ticked more boxes. Final Result Scott Pilgrim 6 Kick-Ass 3 |

Darn! Missed out on this poll. Well, I would have voted for Kick-Ass and for 2 reasons. The first reason being the R rating. With this rating the movie had a lot of vulgar language (which I like) and lots of violence (which I also like). All it was missing was the nudity (which I really like). No way Kick-Ass could have been what it was if it were PG-13. That would have toned down the language and violence and made it soft/weak. And my second reason is that I like "a girl with a dirty mouth." That controversial word (c*nt) that Hit Girl said is hilarious! I don't hear that word in any movies these days. Hit Girl is awesome!

Dang, I never got to vote either.
![]() Best Actor Dunno, I think the leads in both movies are about equal. I'd probably stick with Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim for his dynamic range of expressions (or lack thereof ![]() Best Actress The young lass playing Hitgirl in "Kick-Ass." Best Supporting Cast Well, I think "Scott Pilgrim" has a bigger supporting cast that stood out more. It's hard to turn down "KA" with Nicholas Cage in the mix, but in the end, "SC" has both quantity and quality. Best Director As much as I like Matthew Vaughn, Edgar Wright gets the high points for style. Best Story "KA" definitely has depth; "SC" is just screwy. ![]() Best Script I'd probably stick with "KA." Solid adaptaton of the comic; has good lines; told a good story. Best Action Extremely tough choice. "SC" is definitely more frequent, but so very wild and cartoony. I'd probably give this to "KA" for having a fantastic finale, and for finding a good balance between what's realistic and unrealistic. Best Effects "SC" (likely due to having a bigger budget); it's a little fake-looking at times, but still looks nice and conveys the style very effectively. Best everything else (Pacing, Soundtrack, etc) I think "SC" has the better pacing and the better soundtrack. I'd even say it probably has the better-looking production (although "KA" probably shouldn't be faulted, since its budget was limited as I recall). KA: 4 SC: 5 Looks like I'd vote on "Scott Pilgrim." Which is funny, I thought I liked "KA" better. In the end, I think I like them both about equal. |
