I made this thread in the Games forum, and somebody requested it be here too.

Off the top of my head, I would say The Brave One is one of the worst looking.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the movie poster art for Babel. But I will agree the cover for 300 is more interesting.

The box art I dislike is the design format Buena Vista is using for catalog BD releases like Con Air, Crimson Tide and Enemy of the State. They have a cheesy "swoosh" design element eating up a bunch of cover art space on the right side of the cover. It just looks stupid.

Actually, I'm hoping that Blu-Ray movie packaging will eventually be able to dispense with seemingly mandatory blue top bar and logo across the packaging. That will allow for much better, more tasteful looking package designs. So far Close Encounters of the Third Kind is one of very few BD discs not to have logo spam all over the front cover.

I remember when DVD was in its early years and many movies had similarly cheesy packaging. Then 2-disc special editions like Fight Club were released with wonderful packaging designs. I'm hoping major "tent pole" hit movies in recent years will get similar, tasteful treatment when they are released on Blu-Ray. When you figure in the price premium customers have to pay for Blu-Ray discs, IMHO the packaging should look more special rather than something that might look more like it belongs in a bargain bin.

I love the box art for Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Never really been a fan of the art on Reign of Fire..

Not me. At least, not anymore. I fell into the "Look...It's a Malibu Stacey with a New Hat!" packaging syndrome with standard DVD, and I don't want them to repeat it. I like the blue cases, and I like the standard packaging. It makes things simple for storage and easy to find the title I'm looking for.

Sure, the Deluxe version of "Memento" was a visually interesting package choice, but what a pain it was to open up and get out the disk. And then you have the plastic paperclip to contend with...

If anything, I would like to see standard cases with the cardboard slipcover. I don't want a 'chase' Blu Ray movie, where there are only 10,000 movies in special 'tins' out there. Sure, it's cool from a gimick standpoint, but frustrating for the OCD's out there who feel compelled to own the "Malibu Stacey with the New Hat".

I do agree with the Con-Air, Rock, et al 'swoosh' being cheesy and dissapointing though, but the case for Close Encounters is the kind of stuff I would like to see avoided. Yes, it looks fantastic but from a storage and cataloge standpoint I find myself wanting them to keep away from that style.

Just me, of course.

I really like the case to War. Not a big fan of Spider-Man 3's case tho.

I liked 300 and babel, also Black Hawk Down is pretty cool. I hate the cover for The Invasion though.

Best cover art? Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Including the packaging.

Just classy, classy, classy.

Worst cover art? Anything with a swoosh, regardless of the actual design.

Worst: Die Hard Collection, Superman Returns, Flatliners (looks like a bootleg), the Spiderman films . . . if they use the HD DVD cover for Batman Begins, that will join the list. There's only one poster for BB that looks like a professional had anything to do with it, the rest of the promo work/art for that movie was horrible.

Best: Anything that uses original poster art (except for Spiderman . . . the posters for those sucked. The teasers were 100x better) . . . unless they're molested by the "swoosh." The Dracula slipcover is pretty slick.

I think Spider-man 3 is atrocious, I don't mind the first 2 though. I don't really enjoy the cover to 3:10 to Yuma either. My favorite is probably Shoot 'Em Up, 300 or Letters From Iwo Jima.

I like Cast Away, Superman II, and Underworld. Their so simple, but you know what's up. I like the holographicism(?) of the Ratatouille and Cars.

German Cover of "Ghost Rider":

Looks nice.

But I donīt like the "to much color" ones ...(like this for instance)

Just some nice looking classicīs are cool...:

...Maybe they will do something like this in the future:

My own creation of the 4th season of Lost... hahahaha would be nice

Ok, Ok it was just a suggestion
