I have just purchased a samsung LE40N87BDX 1080P television and I am wanting to get a bluray player, my question is which is best a playstation 3 or samsung bd-p1500. Can anybody give me some guidance please as I am a bluray virgin. I will also be looking for a surround sound system to go with it. If you have any advice it would be appreciated.
Thanks ![]() |

I think your best bet would be a Playstation 3. Sony has a shown that they a willing and able to keep it at the forefront of bluray technology as it becomes available.

My vote goes to PS3. Sony has committed to evolve PS3 with blu-ray technology. Also it is quick and delivers an outstanding picture when coupled with a good quality display.

If it's not for games, you may want to stick w/the 60GB version (instead of the 80GB). One of the benefits of the 80GB is that it will play PS2 games whereas the other will not. There may be other benefits to the 80GB as well, but I haven't done a spec comparison in detail. To my knowledge and everything I've read/heard the PS3 is STILL widely accepted to be the best Blu-ray player out there AT ANY PRICE. Add the fact that it's only $400, and it's a slam dunk. It decodes all the sound formats and boots faster than any of the others. The picture quality is awesome too. Most other players don't decode all the hi-res audio formats. The PS3 firmware is upgradable too which should keep it from becoming obsolete any time soon. Most (if not all) of the Profile 1.0 players cannot be upgraded for the new Blu-ray features that are now available. You mentioned also, that you're looking for tips on surround sound. If it is between the PS3 and the Samsung go with the PS3. It is the most complete and best Blu-Ray player out right now. Make sure you pick up The Blu-Ray remote to go with it.
The only down side to the PS3 is that it does not bitstream DTS-DHMA & Dolby Digital TrueHD (but only if you want the receiver to do the decoding and you have a newer receiver). The Samsung only bitstreams the newer audio so you have to have a newer receiver. The biggest upside to the PS3 is it is the only BD live player o the market right now, and it is the only one with a wireless internet connection (and likely to stay that way for a while). In short as others have said PS3 or bust ![]() |

Just got with a PS3, 40 GB if you dont want Backward Compatibility with PS2 games. 40 GB is quieter and more energy efficient than 80 GB but it only has 2 USB ports and no media card readers plus it can't play SACDs. You should go ahead with this purchase since everyone will say the same and if you do a search on best BD player hands down PS3 wins. Plus most of us didn't purchase the PS3 for gaming but for BD at this site, hopefully this year would be different with some very anticipated exclusive titles for PS3

If only the PS3 games held some interest for me. Love the best of the old adventure games (Grim Fandango brought up to modern gaming standards would be tres cool). The driving, sports and kill, kill, kill games aren't my bag (I get enough killing from the news every day), so I'm looking forward to Little Big Planet ![]() Last edited by Ria Rhodes; 04-27-2008 at 09:53 PM. |

Is there a BD player equivalent to the PS3? I really don't care much for owning a PS3 strictly for BD. I'd prefer having a BD player and get rid (give to brother) my PS3.
