Yes. A player that is "wifi ready" can connect to a wifi network, but it does not have a built in wifi chip. You have to buy an accessory from the manufacturer and those normally go for $79.99. A player that has built in wifi can connect right out of the box

My advice is unless you're buying a very high-end player that you want for other reasons that doesn't happen to have WiFi built in, is to buy a player that does have WiFi built in. Lowers your cost, nothing is sticking out of the player to break off, etc.
The Sony 570 (and I believe its replacement, the new 580) has WiFi built in and it's a pleasure to use. I wish all the manufacturers would do this. |
