#ReleaseTheWanCu-naw just kidding.

Surprised the movie actually came close to breaking even but didn't quite make it.
(My mistake was misremembering the definition of "breaking even"; which wasn't just making its budget back.)

You may be kidding, but I would personally love to see the original intended cut - or as much of it as possible with the footage that was shot before the pandering to various factions took precedence.

Dolph said there was quite a bit more of his character and Mera that was material to the plot.

Oh, I agree. But James Gunn backtracked and changed his mind on finishing Ayer's cut of Suicide Squad (2016), if Ayer is to be believed, so I think it's very unlikely sadly.

Not saying Gunn was entirely to blame for Aquaman 2's Final Cut but.....I dunno. It's complicated corporate intentions at the end of the day that frankly aren't helping them IMO.

In regards to Mera: Well, if they released Ezra's Flash film and loudly expected people to "forget" their alleged crimes, cutting most of Amber Heard's scenes seems hypocritical. Especially since she was that important to this film's plot. They're not pleasing anyone in that regard...WB needs own up to it and give the directors their vision put to screen or they're screwed.

I agree if it ever did happen, it would likely be decades away, when they aren't trying to market it around various PR obstacles.

The original film was my favorite of the Snyderverse films and I was very much looking forward to a sequel- before it had to start getting twisted to appease a segment of moviegoers who would always have been the most fickle towards this genre anyway.

This whole "test audience driven product" is how we got Birds of Prey and WW84, AND how 3 of the 5 films before Aquaman 1 got meddled with.

I hope Gunn won't allow this shit because it's never worked when these WB execs think they know better than the fans.

Studio interference / test audience reactions / reshoots aren't all bad. Yes they clearly can create horrible movies, but there are also just as many examples where such changes actually ended up with an improved movie. We just hear more about the movies where they ended up failing.

P.S. The digital release is next week.

I'd believe that Gunn backtracked. He's kind of a douchebag. And since he's the mastermind behind DC's next iteration of films then I would expect he's got a bit of an ego more so now and controlling every aspect.

So is Kevin Feige, George Lucas and every executive in Hollywood. I imagine to get the position he's in now he didn't give out freebies in the chance it wouldn't make profit.

Maybe at one point there would have been an Ayer Cut released. Then Flash bombed, then Blue Beetle, so on and so forth. Ultimately why invest money in a maybe-not-even-50% different cut of a released film from a failing universe? As a business decision that's a terrible idea. At least Snyder's cut of JL had a vast difference from the 2017 version. Most of the stuff cut from Ayer's version were put in the Extended edition bluray.

Hate to sound like "the man" but WB clearly isn't going to take that risk right now. I don't 100% agree with their reluctance to go back on their word to David Ayer. However, most people don't make it that far in the business. I feel terrible for the guy. It's out of his control unfortunately.

It is a shame. I don't think it helped the film to have Mera sidelined the whole middle adventure stretch. She did still pop up in key moments and more than the marketing had it appear, but still a shame. I know the director and some exec were going off about how yes the audience loved the chemistry between AM and M in the 1st one but that it was all Hollywood tricks and only the editing and music made it work so they were going make a new pairing for top chemistry. Ironically, one of the complaints I read the most is how the new pairing had meh chemistry in the new one. The whole thing didn't seem to make sense even when they were going on about it back then. You wonder if it was not just pandering to a crowd and trying to give some legal cover if they wanted to dump and cut or something.

I still liked it, but it did feel like a few things were missing compared to the first. I think WB screwed themselves by chopping up the cut and minimizing key elements. I'm not happy they have now killed off this Aquaman series entirely and same for Wonder Woman. I though it was bad when the old WB released WW84 straight to video and made a mess of it all only for new WB to do even worse!

I really wish WB would do blu ray/4k combos.
