Gangs of New York - Blu-ray Forum

As we all know, 'Gangs of New York' is coming stateside on July 1st. Since Walt Disney Studios will be doing the transfer, do you think that it will be quite a leap in quality from the U.K. version? I tend to think that it will, and I'm so happy that I was patient. I've heard from others that the U.K. version wasn't anything to write home about, hence my apprehension to purchasing it beforehand. It could have just been hubris, but I couldn't say for sure since I never viewed it.

For me personally, this is my most highly anticipated Blu-ray title for the year, along with 'Sleeping Beauty' and 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'. Is anyone else as excited as I am to get their eager little paws on this gem? July 1st can't come soon enough!

I just hope that Disney gives 'Gangs of New York' the special treatment, and we're all in store for a phenomenal presentation of the film.

I can't wait!

I also have high hopes for this title!

Even though I was tremendously disappointed with the lackluster cover Disney cooked up for it -- easily one of the most inelegant ever, especially for such a prestigious release.

That looks like the same cover as the Tinkerbell post for a cover.

I am so stoked about this movie being released. I've already sold my 2 disc DVD in order to make way. This is definitely one of my favs.

I remember when this movie first came out of DVD while I was away at school. I'm a huge movie buff, and everytime I went home to visit the folks I lugged my DVD collection home with me. I used to keep my DVDs in one of those giant portable CD suitcases that holds 328 discs. Anyway, I always had some tiype of movie to watch with the family.

One weekend, when I showed them Gangs of New York, they flipped out, but not in a good way. They thought the movie was too brutal and vile and that something was wrong with me for even liking that movie the way I did (and do).

Oh well, to each his own. I can't wait.

Bill the Butcher: Easily one of the best villains of the last few years. Daniel Day Lewis was just brilliant.

Yeah, I'm really hoping that they come up with something excellent for the cover art. It'd be a travesty if the one pictured was used.

The cover is not actual inasmuch as Disney uses the regular BD case, not this advertising mockup.

But do you have any proof of a different art being used, Moonphase?

I was as giddy as a schoolgirl when this was announced. The only others that maybe rival this in excitement are V for Vendetta and Batman Begins, but if I had to choose one of the three I'd go with Gangs of New York.

For me, typically Leo DeCaprio makes the movie (Titanic, Blood Diamond, Catch Me If You Can), but this one I can't say that for. Daniel Day Lewis one-upped Leo. Pre-ordered since day 1.

Absolutely. His performance in this one was disturbing and stunning.
