Default A few "fun" thoughts on Commando

Thoughts about Commando
Reliving the classic, 23 years later.
Been 23 years since I've seen it, and woo HD actually brings out all the nasty flaws !
1. Interesting how the first guy didn’t have a gun ready in the first part of the film inside the girls room.
2. Did he have to rip out the Seat?
3. How cheesy were the sound effects :P (Rocket Launcher). Some of the sounds were decent and located well though.
4. I like the 80s movie rules how everyone just leaves the keys in the ignition.
5. Lol since when do they do have random supply depots with Rocket Launchers and every weapon available? Every Arnold movie there’s always a weapons depot.
6. I love the blue screen effect outline around Matrix and Cindy in the “canoe airplane”.
7. The Mansion has a great familiarity in Max Payne.
8. Far Cry and many other video games and films have been inspired by things in this film.
9. Cheesy one liners. Arnie has the best one liners evarr.
10. Enormous amount of strength for any human to rip out telephone booths, push over cars, push 8 guys off of your back!
11. Matrix is carrying as many weapons a& equipment as a DOOM or Unreal character, i.e. not normally humanly practical: (Please give me correct names if you know guns well!)
1. Assault Rifle 2. 4-Rocket Launcher 3. M9 Beretta 4. Grenades 5. Combat Knife 6. C4 Mines 7. Binoculars 8. Shotgun Shells/Shotgun 6. Uzi 7. Throwing knives 8. Dart gun?
12. Love the Explosion! You can tell the guys were total dummies/mannequins with HD resolution revealing their fake faces and also falling stiffly in HD during the big explosion, har har har
13. Chopping off that arm made me laugh out loud. (So fake looking!)
14. Weapons used later: M16, Sawblades, pitchfork, gardening axe. Belt-fed SAW or some RPD machine gun, pipe.
15. Funny how Bennett gets electrocuted but comes out faster immediately after, wouldn’t he be extremely unconscious or disoriented at least?
16. Color was very washed out. Upped PICTURE/Contrast to max, and brightness reduced to 47, saturation of color to 63. It definitely had the 80s look to it still. Could have been reworked, quality was eww, but tolerable and still better than TV or dvd. The trailers of the original pretty much showed how much worse the quality was before, so I'm still ok with it.

All in all this preserved my 1985 memory. My dad was a war veteran so he had no qualms about showing me cool Arnold flicks at 5 years old .

Mine is a rental and is sitting on my bookshelf waiting for me to watch. I have not seen it in 20+ years so I'm not sure what my reaction will be. I am really looking forward to it though.

I found it odd too that the local Army surplus store had everything short of nukes.

If I missed it, sorry, but you forgot to add the complete inability of anyone except Arnold to hit what they're shooting at.

I always love how Arnold plays a US special forces soldier. I mean his accent is pretty Uncle Sam.

"What's wrong Dillon, CIA got you pushing too many pencils?!" (Not Commando, but genius anyways)

^ Yeah, Arnold is the ultimate character class.
Its like combining special forces, rebel, heavy gunner, navy seal, tactician all in one.

He can carry all heavy weapons, and use them one handed lol.
He has the equivalent strength to about 8 men in this movie.

Oh cool I found what that 4 rocket launcher is called!

I liked seeing that Bill Paxton had a tiny, 10-second role (air traffic guy) - I forgot all about that!

How old were you, now, Dutch?

But I love this movie. Seen it 3 times since I bought it last Wednesday.

The yellow Porche gets wrecked then a few minutes later drives away without a scratch.

I keep hearing that -- I'm gonna have to pop that back in. I could have sworn the side of that car was bashed in.

It was for most of the scene, I watched closely to see this infamous film mistake. After Arnie flips the car back on its wheels, he hops into it with the girl. It's not until they drive away that you catch it - from the rear view, as they are driving away, you can just catch a glimpse of the previously damaged side of the car - but now it is completey dent-free and shiney new!

Ah, ok. That would be where I was missing it then. After he flips it up (when its damaged) I didn't pay much attention as they were driving away.

There is a deleted scene between him flipping it over and driving away.

In that scene he pounds the dent out with his fist.

I also love how they slam into something at like 45 mph, with no Seat Belts, of course, and Ah-nold looks at the girl immediately afterward and says "Are you aright?" And they get out with no scratches or anything.
