This afternoon I was invited out for a meet and greet with Josh Schwartz, creator of THE O.C., GOSSIP GIRL, and the NBC show CHUCK. I work for a magazine in New York who's thinking of collaborating with him on something or other. Our convo opened up with his anecdotes of jury duty at the Tribeca Film Festival, which he just completed, and then we segued into talk about his television shows. Then I asked him if he's currently working on any film projects. I expected to hear something like, "yeah, I'm working on a romantic comedy for Patrick Dempsey." Instead what left his mouth was "yeah, I'm actually writing the new X-Men movie." Whaa? Was he talking about the new Magneto origin story? No, he wasn't. Update: I'm noticing a lot of discontent over this announcement, and after meeting and talking to the guy, I've gotta say it's unwarranted. A lot of what he said isn't in the article, and I can tell you that from talking to him, he's an intelligent, cool dude who's a major X-Men fan and who knows what he's doing. This isn't some talentless hack. Have faith people.

I am up for a new one as long as it would be good. I just dont want to see them pumping out movies just for the sake of pumping them out. They already have the Magneto and Wolverine movies coming. I doubt it would be as good as X2

Yeah, I wouldn't really care as long as they make it GOOD.

This one's gonna have it rough. After seeing Iron Man, most of the Marvel movies, including the Spiderman trilogy and the first two X-Men, are kind of weak. Hopefully Hulk isn't a disappointment.

Definitely agreed. WTF was up with the accent in the first one (along with her delivery of the "do you know what happens when a toad gets struck by lightning . . . " line) and then no accent in the second? I don't think she ever got it, or really ever cared to get it.

Fans have only been asking for him since the first film. They tried to get him into x2 and x3 but didnt happen. I believe his part was actually cut from 3 for some reason. Kinda glad, they bastardized enough characters in 3.

She just didn't fit the role. Seemed to be the only one of the cast that couldn't fill in the shoes of there character. I'm not saying she's a bad actor. I'm just saying this role wasn't for her.

Definitely. She's done some great stuff, but she was definitely the weak point of the X-Men.

The character that should have been delovoped alot more was Cyclops. Could never get into him and then they kill him off. There was alot of things in X3 that was just wrong

Heh, an X-Men 4 a la Superman Returns, where the third and fourth didn't exist?

Seems like a good idea to me.

Don't know if anyone's ever going to read this, but here is the reason why Iron man was so good and why The Incredible Hulk is not going to suck either:

Marvel funded these movies. They are the first new production company since Pixar. Marvel is playing with it's own money. They have more vested in these movies that any others that have been made prior. They want these two characters to be successful franchises because it brings them money (to fund future projects with). They are moving ahead but they are moving ahead in a calculated fashion. They have sold off the movie rights to a lot of their characters (Spider-man, Punisher, etc) so they need the ones they still own to be money makers for them. Thor will be the next major we see from Marvel Productions (baring sequels). Iron Man 2 is already slated for 2010.

I think it was $150 million, but you could be right when you add in the marketing.

According to the Hollywood reporter, it made $5 million in the states Thursday night and $30 million internationally on Thursday.
