Which calibration disc? - Blu-ray Forum

Hi,

I'm gonna buy a calibration disc, so I'd like to know which is the best option right now?

Also, will calibrating a display with a BD disc make it calibrated for DVD playback from a different player as well? Or should I buy a different calibration DVD disc?

If you want it perfect you should calibrate two separate inputs for HD and SD, since they don't share the same color space.

Is Avia or DVE normally considered better? Maybe I should pick up DVE for BD and Avia for DVD?

On DVD Avia was said to have the better menu structure.

We'll have to wait for a AVIA BD to compare the two on HiDef.

Why buy the DVE BD just rent it off of Netflix. That's what I did, it's a win win situation. It helped me calibrate my TV to get a near perfect picture, and I didn't have to waste my money on something that I'm only going to use once.

I bought Digital Video Essentials and was disappointed that there weren't test signals for DTS-MA or TrueHD. I have an Onkyo 605 and I wanted to make sure that I had it set up right. Is there another calibration disc that has that? Do any movies have test signals on their disc?

MONSTER CABLE is my favorite, its the official calibration disc of most retailer

I also found Monster Cable's ISF Calibration disc the easiest to use.

The DVE BR disc is more detailed though.

Or, if you have a THX ceritified disc (Star Wars, Finding Nemo, etc). You can use the THX optimizer that comes with it. I also have Avia, DVE, Vikuiti, and what I can tell you is that although THX Optimizer isn't as detailed as the formers, it still does a decent job.

I would recommend though investing in some blue filter glasses and an analog sound meter

Nine Inch Nails: Beside You in Time (Blu-ray) has a good audio test signal in the menu.
It goes through each speaker and visually shows you the speakers on screen as it goes through the test signals.

It's actually a nice demo if you want to show people your surround sound system.

i would think you want to calibrate that people here would want to with a blu ray format disc.
ratatoulie (spelling?

) has video and i believe audio, the bourne demo on the psn for the ps3 has them as well, and any sony blu disc is suppose to have them by pressing 7669 (sony) on the menu

The ratatouille movie's color settings are off and the sony tests on the blu-ray discs aren't exactly easy to use. The monster disc is very straight forward.

havent tried them until today, looking for better settings for my hdtv with no luck. the one on rat doesnt seem to work with mine for brightness and picture. im not getting the results it said i should.

I would recommend renting the calibration dvd from netflix or blockbuster if you have an online membership. It's a one time use item anyway and if you ever need it again you can just rent it a 2nd time. I know netflix has all the DVE calibration discs. I don't know about Monster and AVIA

Just an FYI those disc lead to more energy cons. not better PQ. Getting done the right way (IFA) will pro-long the life of your tv and give you better PQ. With a projector it is going to save you a tone of money on bulbs and energy.

I used the Digital Video Essentials [Blu Ray] to calibrate my television and it worked great, highly recommend it. My only advise is not to fast forward during the explanations of the tests as you may skip over the parts of when you actually calibrate your tv.
