Question HD laptops? Are there HD websites? Browsers? or is just just for blu ray.

I've been looking at the sony ec series laptops and I really like it. The main reason is the 17 inch 1080p screen. But it's also got some power.

But I really want to know if there are hd websites, or browsers or something. Or will this awesome screen just make my desktop icons, internet browser, and websites look horrible? You know. like watching sd programing on an hd tv.

Is it just for streaming hd videos from youtube and watching blu ray movies?

Cause I think it would be seriously sweet if I could browse the web in hd.

You do realize that computer monitor resolutions have far exceeded "HD" for many, many years, right?

lol...pc monitors have exceeded hd resolutions for a long time. That one is just saying its native is 1080p. Your blu's will naturally look good as long as you have a blu-ray drive.

Unless your using an old crt screen or lcd screen with a max 1024X768resolution, you've been surfing in 'HD' for a while. You most likely wrote this post in 'hd'.

WHAT THE HELL!!!!

How come noone tells me this stuff

Anyone want to explain this. I am not in a good mood right now

wait...then how come 720p youtube vids don't look nearly as good as my 720p tv does?

How do I find my native resolution?

...damit....

edit. My comp says I have 1280 by 800 pixels is that it?

Youtube vids are only as good as the source material thats used to put it up.

What is your goal in all of this?

By not telling you, they can trick you into thinking something is new and better when it's the same old thing with a new sticker. Last year several flyers from Dell or MDG (canadian) were littered with the words HD screen for all their screens or laptops to get people to buy.

You can find your native resolution by checking the specs online for your laptop or monitor. By default, your operating system defaults to the native resolution of your screen when first installed. Since your looking at 1080p screen resolution laptops that means your probably using windows so for Windows Vista/7 it's right click on desktop and select screen resolution. In XP it's right click then choose properties then select the display tab I believe. In vista and 7, if you see recommended next to the choices, that's your native resolution it's detected. In xp (SP2 or higher) to windows 7, the resolution slider's max is also usually your native resolution.

As for youtube, videos may have 720 lines of vertical resolution but the actual bitrate of the video is far lower than a blu-ray while a flash codec is clearly inferior to mpeg2/mpeg4 and VC-1.

Thumbs up

Man! So is 1280x800 better than 720p?

I mean the 1080p is still better than what I have now so I think I'll still go for it. This just amazes me though. lol

It's 720 but it's a different aspect ratio. You're laptop screen is 16:10 where as if it was 1280x720, you'd have 16:9.
