Default firmware hu8022000 on Sharp BD-HP20U

Has anyone out there succeeded in upgrading their Sharp BD-HP20U to firmware version hu8022000?

My Sharp BD-HP20U's current version is hu7103100. When I try to run SOFTWARE UPDATE I get the 'SOFTWARE UPDATE FILE IS NOT DETECTED' error message.

hu8022000.rvp is alone in the root directory of the USB drive. I've tried reformatting the USB drive (FAT) and have display 'hidden files' and 'system files' both on. And the USB light turns on when I insert it into the Sharp.

Since Sharp was unkind enough to use the same error message for 'unable to read USB drive' and 'firmware file error' I was wondering if anyone out there has gotten hu8022000.rvp to work before I go and buy a new USB drive to try.

thanks,
leo

I went through the EXACT same problem - I tried 3 different flash drives, formatted with FAT & FAT32. Tried to re-download, re-copy, re-flash.....

*You have to to reset the unit 1st* (I found out after blood boiling frustration)

The new firmware should be recognized & can then be installed.

I will be trying it probably next weekend. I did successfully update the firmware version that came out just before this one, a few weeks ago. It upgraded just fine, even with a bunch of other stuff on the USB drive... I am using a two year old 256MB Lexar Jump Drive.

Nothing to suggest except maybe a different USB stick? I got mine to update properly with a borrowed USB stick and resetting the unit just prior to the attempt.

That being said, I just dropped it off to be shipped back to the reseller for a full refund so I can get a PS3 instead.

I just recently installed my BD-HP20u and went to watch No Country for Old Men when it played all the previews and then when movie time came nothing. So I updated firmware like it says to do with no problem. Still after update no volume at the movie. Tried another disc 30 Days of Night and all of it worked. I don't know if it is just the movie or am I missing something? Later,Q

I've heard a lot of people complain about the audio on 'No Country'. I played the entire movie fine (sharp blu ray player) but no audio on the special features. The other complaints I saw were people with a PS3, so it's not the Sharp, which is a relief.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but since it relates to my problem. I can play blue rays, but when I put in Hitman it says it reads the disk, but nohting comes up but the stop signal and a black screen. To fix this problem, do i have to upgrade the softeware with this firmware stuff?

I am just confused b/c my other blue rays play just fine. And this is the second copy of Hitman. So i know its not the disk. Could the disk be more updated version of blue ray and that is why i have to update my sharp(HP20u) Blue ray player?

thanks guys

what type of flash did you have prior? and which one finally worked?
I have a SanDisk cruzer mini 512MB, I have tried all the steps above to no avail. can some please mention which flash drives are readable by the player?

thanks

The one that didn't work was an old Kingston 256MB. Unfortunately, the one that did work was a no-name of my Dad's that he had conveniently left at the office. I have no idea what it was.

I upgraded with no problems at all... I think I used a Verbatim 1GB or Sandisk Cruzer. I frequently turn off the power to my entire A/V rack, so maybe I didn't have any problems because my player gets "reset" alot?

I have unsuccessfully upgraded the Sharp BD-H20U firmware to version hu8022000.rvp using three (3) different USB drives (Kingston Data Travelor 2 GB; Sandisk Cruzer 4GB and an old Olympus 64K). The USB drives were all formated to FAT, The player was reset to factory specs each time, and I even cold booted by unplugged the player for 30 seconds prior to firmware update. I emailed Sharp and they did respond in a day or so. I will work with a support technician on Saturday and let you know how I make out.

I was finally able to make my flash drive readable by the player.
After formatting many times on a PC, I opted to use a Mac "Disk Utility".

I chose "erase" from the pull down menu, and then "MS-DOS (FAT)"

click on the "security options" button and choose "7-Pass Erase".

After doing this I copied the update file from the desktop to the flash drive, and it worked!

Thanks all who replied.

Well, tech support was friendly, but I have to send my Blu-Ray player in for service because Sharp does not have any local Blu-Ray technicians . I may have a faulty service terminal. Updates to this saga will be shared.

Unhappy firmware upgrade on Sharp BD-HP20U

Sharp updated the dvd player to version 1.10 and the firmware is now HU8022000. That being said, I cannot upgrade to the new firmware HU8040100 so I called tech support one more time and was walked through the firmware upgrade process one more time. They want me to send it in again. Maybe they will check the usb hardware this time because it is not cost effective to have to send in the player everytime a new firmware upgrade becomes available. Anyone else still having this problem? What was the final solution for you?
