well the PS3 may not be the best when it comes to audio but it does make a pretty sweet Blu-Ray player and easier to use

Well for people with 'normal' income the PS3 would be my choice.

But if you earn mucho coinage I'm sure there are players available for 1000's that will claim to give better video and audio output. Don't know the name of any off hand, but then I couldn't afford them so don't need to know

Another "What is the best Blu Player?" thread.
Plenty of those here if you search.

If comes down to what are your needs.
Do you want to hear HD audio but have an older receiver with 7.1 analog inputs?
If so a PS3 will not be your best choice!

If you have a newer receiver with HD audio capabilities and want to use it to decode HD audio, then the PS3 will also not be your best choice.

If your budget is no more than $400 US, then a PS3 is your only choice.
(unless the cheaper funai model is available where you live.)
Or you can wait a bit for the new (and cheaper) Sony models that should be arriving soon.

He didn't ask what's the best in a price range, he said what's the best. At the moment it couldn't be anything other than the Denon 3800. Perhaps when the new Pioneers come out that will change, we'll see.

At the Wal Mart I work at we got the Samsung 1500 BD players in last Friday night. Don't know if they will be better than the 1400's, but they will sell for around $348.96. Other than that, as most people have suggested, the PS3 is your best bet for right now. The only disadvantage right now is that will not do Bitstream audio, but will do Linear PCM for all the lossless audio tracks.

I love vague threads like this. As you can already see there are many interpretations of "best".

I would definitely agree that the PS3 is the "best" value and upgradability. Some fans on this board love Denon, some Pany.

Here is a list of what some may consider part of "Best"

value
price
2.0 profile (or 1.1)
brand
support
warrenty
scalability/upgradable (Firmware)

The PS3 is the most capable player on the market right now.

As far as what is the best is up to you depending on your requirements, etc.

The PS3 does NOT offer the best Blu-ray PQ therefore cannot be considered the "best."

Well, if you are just looking for straight up blu-ray, then I wouldnt know, but overall value is of course the PS3. It is easy to use, has FW updates so it will never be obsolete, and you can download BR trailers off of the PSN so you can see what is coming out.

Not to mention the fact it plays music, games, and has internet.

Home Theater magazine said that PS3 was the best Blu Ray player because it is infinatly upgradeable and can now do DTS MA albiet through PCM

As for those people who have an old receiver and need to use 7.1 analog I don't think they will get DD True HD or DTS MA through analog connections, I belive the only way you can get those codecs is though HDMI 1.3. (Not sure if that last statment was true.)

What's the best thing I can get, that will do things, or I can do things with???? anyone know?? I'm looking for it in a color, or perhaps without a color, and I want it to be a "useful" size, and be available at a price under oh... say 5.7 Billion USD, although I'm willing to stretch the budget if the right "thing" comes along.

Best what for what? Best quality, best value for money, or something else?

Best value for money is undoubtedly the PS3, but the best quality crown probably belongs to the Denon 3800, the top Pioneer Elite, or the forthcoming models from Marantz or Goldmund.

On numerous reviews the PS3 has been said to have perfect PQ and easily passes all tests thrown at it..."it is only limited by the display it is used with." Do your research..
