MGS4 only 5.1??

Sorry I didn't add this to the main MGS4 thread.. trying avoid seeing any spoilers.

I was reading through this

and I saw this:

"We were challenged to make MGS4 in high definition graphics and 5.1ch surround sound"

I was sure that this game was known to be 7.1 LPCM???

I thought the 7.1 lossless was what pushed the limits of Blu-Ray.

Someone on another forum said its 5.1 DD?!? I was SURE this game was at LEAST lossless?!?

I will be shocked if the 50gb was filled WITHOUT the use of 7.1 lossless...

I think it'll be 5.1 DD. That is what the Metal Gear Online Beta is using, and the Dolby Digital symbol is featured hugely in the opening credits.

I think the disk space was used up by huge environments, textures, and lengthy in-game video sequences, which are typical of MGS games.

I've got a 5.1 setup. no 7.1 for me. so that's ok, but hopefully it'll be lossless.

good. im even more excited now for this game.

i was thinking the game would be roughly 45-50GB and that the audio was going to eat up a solid 15GB of that.

Now im just wondering to myself, how big is this game going to be??? Im seriously begginning to think that when this game comes out it is going to be hailed as the greatest video game ever made and make GTA IV look like peanuts in comparisson.

My big worry is that the game might not be in 1080p, and if it is, it better be native.

I'm betting that it will be 720p native. They were having trouble with disk space due to the enviornments and gameplay dynamics etc so I can't imagine that they would try to make the game run in 1080p native resolution with the already limited disc space.

So they are having trouble with space? So a 50gb disc is not enough, how about a 5gb install on top of the 50gig disc? That's the way I would do it.. 1080p 60fps 7.1 lpcm.. what blu-ray is all about.. and ps3 games are blu right? If you (BDA / PS3) are going to promote the wonders of Blu-Ray my golly miss molly give us the wonders.

Heck if this is the game of the year.. I could do a 10gig install..

I'm pretty sure its DD 5.1. Look at the opening of the beta. Huge logo like the other poster said.

Since they haven't said anything about 1080p, it makes me think it will turn out to be 720p. If this was 1080p wouldn't they be flaunting that around?

Kojima wanted to put as much as he could and if by having 720p native and 5.1 DD is the way to go to fit some more stuff on the disc then so be it i mean we want this to be an awesome game so im actually happy about it. i only want LPCM only when then is enough space to do so

Blu-Ray is just a storage format. It doesnt automatically make a machine push a higher res at a higher FPS. Right now the sweet spot for 99% of all ps3/360 games is 720p. The games that you see at 1080p are not going to be as graphically impressive for the most part, as they wont be able to keep it at that res and push the amount of polys people are looking for. So having a bigger storage format doesnt always mean the game will be better. Look at PC, they could ship a game on its own HD i suppose and have it be 1TB, but that doesnt mean the graphics would be like OMGWTFBBQ!!ONE!!!!

5.1 is good enough for me, because that is all I have at the momemnt. I am sure MGS4 will be a great game reguardless of the sound being 5.1. How about you wait to complain after you have experianced the surround sound.

Three words come to mind.. Grand Turismo Five! It is possible, that game is graphically impressive at worst and it does push the amount of polys and res people are looking for.

Something else comes to mind.. lazy ignorant developers..

Uncharted, Warhawk, GT:Prologue, Lair, Dirt, Resistance... just to name a few that come to mind.
