I've got a 60gb Japanese PS3 right now. Just remember that DVD playback is region 2 only, and that backward compatibility (for PS1 games in your case) is for Japanese games only. Other than that, it should play Region A blu-rays, and all PS3 games. Since I'm still in Japan right now, I'm not really sure, but I'm guessing if the power outlets in Canada are the same as in the states, you shouldn't need a converter or anything to plug it in. Perhaps someone else can clarify that. And finally, I've seen some people on other forums claim that installing a firmware from a different region on your PS3 may screw it up. It might be purely coincidental, but to be safe I know I'm gonna continue using Japanese firmware updates when I go back to the states.

i've own the 40g white ps3 for about half a year now and its works flawlessly as like my us 60g ps3. plays all ps3, blu-rays, and update firmwares w/o any problems...if canada uses the same type of power outlets as the us, then you should be fine.
