Default Did you stay with the first Avatar release or upgrade to the CE?

If another Avatar thread is redundant and any Avatar discussion should only go into the main Avatar thread, please delete this thread. I was just curious in seeing how many people stayed with the original and how many upgraded to the Collector's Edition.

I skipped seeing Avatar in the theater and even though I knew they were going to double dip on Avatar in November, I decided to blind buy the first bare bones release of the movie. I only bought the movie because of all the hype it received and I ended up enjoying it. Since I already had the movie and I rarely watch the special features, I was happy with the original release and felt no need to buy the collector's edition.

What did you do?

I personally do not this this a "frequent re-watching" film and didn't "upgrade". Maybe when I get a 3D projector in a few years, I will reconsider.

I purchased a used version of Avatar CE, came in near mint condition from gohastings.com. $25 was just too much for me but $18 was more like it. I am very glad I bought it. So far, the alternate beginning on earth, really made a difference for me, I haven't watched the whole thing yet. I felt we were introduced too fast to the character and didn't have much character development. With this new version, you really see where he is coming from and understand his motivation and actions much better. Also, I know/think the transfer is the same as the regular version, but for some reason I was more impressed with the CE .

I'm not gonna bother since I loathe the movie and didn't really buy it in the first place. My dad never really trusts reviews or instinct.

Damn it I missed that option . I should have also added the "I bought the original but I'll upgrade to the 3-D release once i get a 3D HDTV for free." Next time I'll add even better options

I would seriously like that option lol

Sticking with the original. Never been a fan of extras and the movie was just decent, so I'm content.

I'm a double-dipper. Gave my movie only disc to my family who just bought a Blu-ray player.

I don't even know why I bought the original BD release. I definitely will not be buying any newer ones.

I double dipped because I loved the movie and due to an error on Amazon's part the barebones release only cost me five dollars,

Actually, I do remember why I bought it. For the same reason I bought Speed Racer... The eye candy and absolutely nothing else.

the current BD3D panasonic exclusive is still only the theatrical cut right? i want the 16additional extended minutes to be in BD3D as well.

Avatar3D extended+all the bonus already released here and BDLive all wrapped into a single ultimate boxset.

and THAT as far as i know is not released yet.

I got the original release and I'm fine with that.

I tend to prefer the version I saw in the "real" theaters if it's a movie I saw in "real" theaters and I did see Avatar at a theater.

I would pick up a extended cut (to check it out) if I found it used and stupidly cheap. I'm in no hurry though. I didn't even rent the new one.
