I bought Transformers on bluray when it came out, and i was dissapointed. THe transfer looks like a DVD, i taken two pictures at the 59:02 mark, where i can really see it. Below are the photos i've taken. Is it my TV or is it the Blu Ray movie.

and that isn't grain IMO... it looks more like compression noise
and as stated many times, stills are terrible for vid captures. you have to take everything as a whole |

Definitely looks like digital noise, not grain. Your brightness levels may be way too high, or like the previous person said the sharpness levels could be out of control. Also try reducing the contrast a bit - see if that helps.
If you're using the "out-of-the-box" settings on your TV, they are usually set too high or hot for real world viewing. |

No it's grain, if you don't see grain in TF you either in denial or blind. They was plenty at the cinema. More when bubblebee fight 'The Police Car' at night. I'am pretty sure they used a high ASA film during those scene, plus they played with the color and the image to death so that doesn't help.
a Lot of DVD don't even have grain because their are DNR to death. If you want that look i suggest watching movie on Youtube.. |

Look like the TV is NOT CALIBRATED! That is the problem here. It is over-saturating the colors which leads to banding and grouping of colors, like little globs of bright color. You need to have this properly calibrated, it is very important. Once it is calibrated, you will see the saturation at normal levels, the brightness turned down, the contrast turned down and adjusted properly, the sharpness turned down (high sharpness is a BAD thing), and more. You can even have the sound calibrated too.
Seriously, these are classic signs of a poorly calibrated, straight-from-the-factory TV. Fix that, and you will see a HUGE improvement. |

Oh, and true grain is a GOOD thing. Grain is where all the details of the image lie, and actually provide sharpness.
What I see does not look like grain, but there should be grain there when it is calibrated properly. |

There are tons of threads complaining about film grain. Now your issue is not grain. Those little criers need to stop.

Transformers is totally BEYOND wicked sick.
Someone was on CRACK when they mastered that Blu-ray, because there is nothing wrong with it. It doesn't even look like it is the product of plain old "good" engineering...it's more like...someone was on an obsessive compulsive mission from God. Yeah man...check your settings. |

I just took pics on my camera of that exact scene and got slightly better results but not by much. That scene is possibly one of the worst scenes in the movie for a "still". It has blue light and a dark background and the camera makes it look worse still.
The middle section of the movie is dark with lots of flashing lighting going on. When the movie is in motion it looks better than the pics you posted. Calibrating your TV will not suddenly make that pic look pristine and perfect. Even if you had a Pioneer Kuro fully calibrated it can't hide the limitations of film. |

My guess is that if someone was on crack while mastering TF, the quality would be worse...not better. IMO, TF is pretty underwhelming, not my demo Blu-Ray by any means. On a side note- I hope that's the last time I ever read the sentence "totally beyond wicked sick" ugh... |
