Hi, I recently buy the Onkyo TX-SR705 replacing my old school Sony SR-DE1075 to hear the new formats (DTrue, DTS-HD) on my PS3 (ver 2.35).
But I feel that my old receiver sounds better. I don't understand how to set the speakers equalizer(Hz) to hear more treble, more fidelity on the sountracks. With the old receiver I feel more the LFE. What I'm doing wrong? What keys in the equalizer going up and whats going down in order to create like an "V" in the spectrum of the receiver? Somebody help me please! _____________ Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR705 Speakers: Sony SA-VE815ED (HTiB) Player: PS3 40GB |

First off, Congrats you got yourself a real receiver. Second Onkyo only has bass and treble control for stereo playback. Most high current receivers use a flat response that comes from the source material, so the quality depends on your speakers just as much as the receiver. With the LFE make sure that the crossover is set high or low enough on the Onkyo to your liking. Make sure that speakers are set to small this allows for the bass to go to the sub.
You have stepped up and you will and should notice a difference in sound quality. ![]() |

I have an 805 so I'm not entirely sure about the 705, but it should have the same 7 or 8 band equilizer in it that mine does. You can find it somewhere in the speaker setup menu. You can also find speaker levels there. That way you can turn up the level of your subwoofer to get more bass
![]() Note: The equilizer is disabled on direct mode and bitstreamed audio tracks(TrueHD and DTS-MA) but the tone controls will still be applied. |

There is no reason that the Onkyo should not sound as good as a Sony HTIB. It is possible that the Sony receiver had some built-in EQ that compensates for the included speakers' design.
The 705 does have the 7-band EQ. To adjust: setup --> speaker setup --> equalizer settings. If you have ran the Audyssey setup processes, it will likely display "Audyssey." If so, you will have to select "manual" to override those settings and manually EQ the speakers. It is pretty straight forward to EQ. Select speaker that you wish to to EQ and change the settings. If you want a "scooped" EQ as your "V" description suggests, I would say boost everything below 400 and above 2500. You'll just have to play with it.
