Default Elemental Designs

Hey everyone....

I'm upgrading my speakers and was wondering what everyone thinks about Elemental Designs. They look awesome for the price and I've heard good things, but not being to audition before buying is tough.

I listen to music and movies, but I really want speakers that will play rock/metal well and blend with one of the new Harman Kardon receivers I'm going to pick up when they come out.

Anyone have advice when it comes to eD or would like to describe their sound or make a comparison to other speakers?

The system I'm considering consists of:

A6-6T6 towers for fronts
A6-6T6 MTM Center
A6-6T6 MTM surrounds (on stands)
and then either A6-6T6 MTM's or A3-5TC Bookshelfs for the rears since I need to wall mount them
and a A5-350 sub with the amplifier upgrade.

I'm going to be moving to eD speakers myself, once I get my theater room finished in my basement. I've been using their car audio for a while now, and have been nothing but impressed with the quality, and clarity of sound from them. The amps are very well built, and the speakers perform flawlessly, and I listen to alot of metal, like Pantera, Disturbed, Godsmack, etc. Overall, I think that with the quality of the car audio, the home audio will be the same. If you want some more information about their home audio, check out http://www.icixsound.com/vb/, and go to the home audio section. Lots of great information there.

Awesome, just the type of music I listen to. I'm pretty sold on these now, just trying to decide exactly what I want for the rears/surrounds. thanks a lot for the link!

I am running an eD setup for my front soundstage. 6T6 Towers and a 6T6 MTM center. I love the speakers and I am very impressed with their sound quality, clarity and building quality. I also think their service is top notch.

My A5-350 Sub will be shipping any day now (after a 3 month wait time). These guys build the subs to order and the lead time right now (back log of orders) is about 12 weeks.

The fact that the AV snobs on AVS all universally praise eD speakers and subs ultimately sold me.

After reading this thread, I went to the eD website. I am definately impressed as well. I agree with Metalheadisme; I would absolutely love to audition them. I have been researching several speakers for my HT upgrade for several weeks now and these will most certainly be added to my list.

Well, I just got the towers in.... the A5-350 and A6-6T6 MTM center/surrounds should be coming in early may.

I'll audition the towers and post my thoughts tomorrow!

Sweet -- my eD A5-350 is built and pending shipment. The final piece of my audio remodel is almost here.

I have loved my A6 towers and center channel. Great speakers at any price -- but it is awesome that they are so cheap.

Note to Metal: The Towers are beasts aren't they? And the packaging is top notch.

I should have the cash by tomorrow to purchase the towers and 6t6 center. I'm chomping at the bit right now to get them ordered.

You will not be disappointed!! Feed them plenty of power. I am running that same setup off an Onkyo 805 and they sound great.

I am using 2 pairs of B&W Rock Solid Monitors for surrounds (they are old -- but still great).

The Pioneer receiver that I have is 150W @ 6ohms. So they'll see plenty of power. I just can't wait for payday tonight.

I've been good friends with the company's owner since 1st grade so I'm biased but I've been using their smallest speakers for fronts in my bedroom and have been impressed. Later this year I'll probably buy a full setup for my living room.

Haha, beasts they are! I was at work so my girlfriend was there when they arrived... it didn't help that the fed ex person was another small female.

Needless to say, I got an earful when I got back, especially since I live on the third floor, haha.

Can't wait to hook em up tonight and break em in!

Wait until you see how much attention to detail the eD guys put into the packaging.

Oh man, the cabinets are sweet. Very slick. Only complaint are some loose staples I noticed pushing the grill up, but small beans. Very nice finish and styling. These things weigh a bit more than the listed 40lbs. I think, and they're very sturdy.

So, I hooked them up to my severely underpowered HK AVR 135 (40wpc, but it's RMS power with all channels driven). They sounded BEAUTIFUL! I played a couple of my favorite songs to demo- Mother by Danzig and Hard Rock Hallelujah by Lordi. I couldn't believe I paid $425 for the pair... they sound like they should be at least $1500 a pair. VERY detailed highs, but they aren't harsh- very mellow and easy to listen to. The mids were very strong and they had a ton of bass (I set them to LARGE and shut off the sub). I can't wait to get the A6-6T6 MTM's in and the killer A5-350 550W 15" sub! I also can't wait to get an HK AVR 254 when they come out to give these puppies some more power and lossless audio!

I can see why eD has the reputation they have. I'd highly recommend these speakers to anyone in search of high class speakers at a steal of a price.

For Metalheadisme, just noticed on the eD website, on the homepage, they have a site called Sounddot.com. There they have a few A6-6T6 B-stock center channels for sale. Looks like most of them have some chipping of the paint, not much more. I sent an email a minute ago to eD, to see if I could get one of these to complete my order. Just a thought for ya.

Hmmmm, thanks for the heads up. Did they let you change your order to include these?

Oh, and did anyone else with the towers notice that they sound crisper with the grills off? I definitely noticed a difference, even though they still sound awesome with the grills on.

I've been continuing to break these puppies in, and they are only sounding better!

Hmmm, been thinking about it some more.... let me know what they tell ya.

The new A6-6T6 MTM is $195 for a single and $365 for a pair. With the package discount, that's $165.75 for a single and $310.25 for a pair. The B-stock ones are going for $150 each.

If they allow you to include the B-stock but without adding a package discount, I'd definitely stick with getting the new ones. I'd consider getting them if they'd include them in the package at around $125 each and $250 for a pair however (this would be similar to the $150 with the %15 package discount).
